      Narcotics

I was wondering if narcotic prescription medication would inhibit REM sleep or anything?

I use a narcotic pain killer for my migraines, it contains opium? And If i take that before bed would it have effects on my dreams?

Probably, most chemical substances have an effect on dreams.

Narcotics in the right dosage will knock you out pretty solid for the night. However, in lighter dosages, interesting things happen. I know two different people who had some pretty weird hallucinations while on morphene after major surgery.

Best bet is to follow your doctors orders when using narcotics and not experiment around with them.

      Hmmm.

About the right dose knocking you out... I dont know. Last night before i went to bed i had a bad headache so:

the instructions on the bottle are, its a nasal spray btw:

one spray (1mg) for moderate pain

two sprays (2mgs) for severe pain, but take one and wait 20 mins then take the other one.

I took two sprays at once, just like i usually do. But i think because i immediately went to sleep after. I couldnt sleep at all. I was up until 7am

i fell asleep at 7 and woke up around 10:30am.

Im definitely not taking it before i sleep any more. I hate insomnia ridden nights.

      ditto to the max!
Dreaming is forgetting the basis of reality, remembering it is to be lucid.

I know this is a rather old topic now, but last night i had to use my opiate painkiller again for a migraine.

I took two sprays (2mg) at around 10pm. The effects wore off around 12am, I was still buzzed, but i was rather sleepy. So i decided to go to bed.

I woke up today feeling VERY refreshed and sort of happy. I cant recall any dreams, but im sure i had some nice ones in th e morning.

Lemme guess: Stadol (Butorphanol)? I used to use that for a chronic migraine that I had developed, at first it was pure magic, when nothing else would even make a dent in my headache that stuff with one squirt made the headache go away completely, handfulls of morphine wouldn't even affect the pain at all. Over time the headache slowly returned, to the point where nothing was working again, including the Stadol. I did some research of my own and found that the "rebound" effect on that stuff happens quite quickly, whithin months if I remember correctly, and at that point I had been on the stuff for almost two years! I threw the little bottle in the garbage and got "clean". Funny thing... the headache went away after a few days & I haven't had a migraine since. I've had a couple of tiny "normal" headaches since then but nothing like before.

I'm not telling you to stop using it, only beware of the real danger of prolonged use. I know of it first hand. You can find a lot of good info around on the interweb if you need to, that's what opened my eyes to the rebound effects associated with it.

Good luck with your migraines, been there done that, ate the t-shirt.
If anyone knows about migraines it's another sufferer.

Not that brand, but it is Butorphanol.

I thank you for your concern, but I am well aware of the effects. Im a pre pre-med student . Actually my father who is a doctor, says that he thinks if i took the board exam for pharmacology right now i would probably pass it

So yeah. Its nice to know theres somebody who understands how i feel, when i tell people it feels like theres 4 kids around me, banging my head with pots.

Admins or Moderators, can you please move this thread to the Lucid Aids section because i would like to learn more about the effects of narcotics on sleep, and I believe somebody might be able to help me, if they see it in the lucid aids section.
