Contact via dream - did I speak to a dead man?

I hope I am posting this in the proper forum - I think I understand the meaning of this dream, but I am wondering if it was a coincidence or not.

      _______________________________

I should explain first that I am in the process of learning how to communicate with spirits via meditation. Some of you are probably skeptical of this, and I understand that, but bear with me for a bit. During my sessions, I have been attempting to contact one person in particular, and during each session, I have asked him to visit me in my dreams (I do firmly believe I have gotten through to someone during my meditation). This will become important. I also never knew this man personally, nor did he know me - all I know of him is based on what I have seen or read about him.

      _______________________________

This dream occurred a couple months ago. It was about a week after I meditated. In my dream, I was walking through the downtown area of the city I live in; the street I was on was very clear to me and I knew where I was. As I continued to walk - and, apparently, not watch where I was going - I physically bumped into someone. I began to apologize to this man when I realized it was the man I had been trying to speak to.

Before I continue, I also need to point out that, at the time this dream occurred, I had seen mostly images of this man in his 'professional attire', which consisted of a bizarre costume, a peculiar hairdo and heavy make-up. I had only seen what he looked like in 'everyday' clothing in a couple of photographs.

In my dream, this man was in his everyday clothing, and despite the fact that I had not seen many pictures of him in such clothing, I managed to identify this man as the one I was trying to communicate with. I looked at him and said, "You're (his name), aren't you?", to which he replied that he was, in fact, that person. I went on, "I saw you perform a couple nights ago and your act was amazing" -- this was not a lie. This man was a musician and I had been watching old videos of his club performances a couple of nights rior to having the dream.

We exchanged words I do not recall, but eventually I said, "I don't want to keep you from wherever you're going". I don't remember what he said to me verbatim, but he went on to say that he was not going anywhere in particular and he asked me to walk with him. I do not remember what happened after that.

The logical side of me wants to think this was a coincidence since I had this person on my mind so much. The spiritual side of me wants to think that he really did visit me in my dreams. Also that week, I had another dream kind of about him...in which I was dressed like him and singing his songs before a crowd. That dream I paid little heed to, but acknowledged that I had dreams based on this person twice in one week.

It is rare for me to dream twice in one week in general, so the fact that I had two dreams about a very specific person over the course of a week really makes me wonder. I have not dreamt about him since.

      The decision rests with you.

The more you believe in the spiritual, the more you enslave yourself.

Haha, yes I know the decision is mine. I've tried convincing myseslf that those two dreams were just coincidences so I don't get over-excited, but I really do think I might have established contact with someone - maybe not that particular man, but someone.

Most of my dreams are so weird or random that I will just laugh them off, but the dream in which I met this man seemed like something normal and something that I could experience in real life...if the man was not dead. A 'normal' dream like the one I described is sort of an abnormal thing for me to experience, so it felt that much more profound to me...if that makes any sense.

I have had dreams about dead people before where I know for a fact that I 'met' up with them.

Every time this happens they do not "speak" to me. They make jesters, or occasionally I hear them "speak" to me in my mind without them actually speaking aloud.

The reason I know I was truly receiving messages from the dead in my dreams are because I was able to confirm them later. The messages that they conveyed were unique and I was able to convey them to the real intended recipients. These messages were personal for these people and unique to them - something that I definitely wouldn't have known about in advance. This has happened to me three times, with two dead people and two intended recipients.

If you dream of him again, try to get him to convey a message to you - something personal that you don't already know. Then do some research and see if you can verify it. Good luck.

      mel_noah,

Thanks for the advice; I will try what you suggested next time I meditate. I already do know a lot about this person, so if they were to reveal to me something personal that isn't already "common" knowledge, I'd probably need to try and find the people who knew him personally who are still living and ask them about the accuracy of any responses I receive.

Could you explain that a little more? I can't quite figure what you try to say with that

I guess that would be a little bit rude, I think it could be possible even if that person you are meeting as a mind on its own.

@Orphic: I'm interested in the technique you are using, would you mind giving some reference?

I kind of get what drewmandan is saying. I realize some people get so far into spiritual belief in the wrong ways that they will understand every single little thing as being a "sign" and be unable to think much for themselves. I'm not that far gone yet, though. I know how potent the power of suggestion can be.

ShadowmanX, I actually am not completely sure if what I am doing is one hundred percent correct since I also had never meditated before and I do not do the usual "Think of a beautiful meadow/castle/etc." exercise that I have read about in many meditation guides that can prompt both relaxation and contact. What I do I sit in a comfortable position in a well-lit room and rest my hands on my legs. I do my best to clear my mind and from there I focus on my breathing and trying to relax it...which is sometimes a challenge for me since I have breathing issues. But, somehow, I always manage to get my breathing under control when I meditate.

Then, once I feel like I have nothing on my mind invading my thoughts that could impede my meditation, I begin thinking about the person I want to speak to. I visualize them in my mind and imagine hearing their voice. And then I say the person's name out loud and begin talking to them in a manner that suggests they can hear me. I will say things like, "Can you hear me?" and "If you can hear me, can you send me a sensation?" - which could be anything from a tingling in the body to a flash of light in your peripheral vision. Asking the person to show themselves or materialize in front of you would probably not work because that paprticular spirit would need to be in the room with you to do that, and at this point, you are merely speaking to them across the astral plane using only your mind. Some people (I am not one of them) can 'tune in' during their meditations and hear the person's voice in their mind.

I have done this only four times, but each time I have felt a very notable tingling sensation in the side of my head and face...always on the right side only. I was reluctant to believe it was anything to get excited about because I have chronic headaches that often produce tingly feelings in my face, but I jut knew this was different. My face felt as if it had fallen asleep. During my most recent session, the tingling was exceptionally strong; the closest sensation I could compare it to would be the feeling one gets when they get snow rubbed on their skin. A sort of tingly-cold-burning feeling, but there was no pain. From my research and from what others have told me, the tingling is a telltale sign that someone can hear me. With each session, I asked the person I sought to visit me in my dreams; I outright admitted to them I didn't know if I was doing things correctly and I didn't want to miss anything he had to say to me during the meditation.

I have not figured out who just yet, but I am hoping to know eventually so I can stop addressing this person as "PersonISeek" if the person is actually "MySpiritGuide" or "SomeoneElse".

I might try that too. I just first have to think of a person I want to see again, maybe one of my grandparents
