I have a question, which is particularly directed to lucid dreamers.
Do you consider dreaming something that takes place "inside your head", something entirely subjective? Or do you think there is some kind of transpersonal or objective realm in which dreaming takes place? Or a mixture of the two?
I know the conventional wisdom from the men of science is that dreaming takes place entirely in the realm of the psyche, a kind of random firing of the synapses once they are disconnected from sensory input.
I'd really like to hear your opinions on this; for me, this story sums it up:
Once upon a time, I, Chuang Tzu, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of following my fancies as a butterfly, and was unconscious of my individuality as a man. Suddenly, I awoke, and there I lay, myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming that I am now a man.
