Stage 2 sleep and REM

Just want to ask anyone who knows more about stage 2 sleep and REM. I'm currently using a light to 'remind' myself to do things in the dream...it goes off an hour after I fall asleep...it's resettable so it's usually an hour later. For me my deep sleep is an hour after I fall asleep so nothing can wake me up but the light will still go off after every few minutes for 45 mins and stops. So my question is whether stage 2 sleep is as light as REM or is it heavier so I won't wake up before REM.... IMJ

Stage 2 sleep is deeper than REm REM happens in stage 1 sleep ..
