Is there anyone out there that can help me??

      Hi Everyone

I'm new to this forum so thought i would say a quick hello and then ask if anyone can give me some advice or help.

I suffer from really bad night sleeps, i can fall asleep quite quickly and then i wont wake up till the morning most nights, but throughout the night i have horrible dreams that normally involve people very close to me or myself and bad things happening to us. I wake up sometimes either really upset or cant stop myself thinking of these things for the rest of the day as my dreams are so realistic it feels like it has already happened, if that make any sense!
Some of my dreams are about events that are going to happen in our lives in the near future but end up going horribly wrong and turn into a nightmare

Some nights i will wake up in the middle of the night from a horrible dream, i then stay awake for a few mins hoping not to go back to the same dream but i almost always go back to the same dream, this can happen about 3 or 4 times and for some reason i cant stop myself going back to it.

I always wake up completely shattered in the mornings as feel like my dreams have tired me out so much i could do with another sleep

I really hope some of that makes some sense and someone can give me some advise or help

      Thanks in advance

learn to enjoy your nightmares, in the end im sure you'll get something out of it. also, read up on the dream control stuff found on this site. i wouldn't say the point is to control your dreams, but then again i don't know what the point is. good luck.

Until you “fix” the problems that are causing you to have nightmares, they will continue to occur.

If you are on meds, check the side effects. If they cause nightmares call your healthcare provider and ask about changing meds. ( I used to take a blood pressure medicine that caused me to have horrific nightmares. For $15 extra each month I began to take a different one that doesn’t cause nightmares....to me, it is money well spent.)

What are your unresolved internal conflicts? What are your frustrations, repressions, emotional conflicts that you haven’t “fixed” or “forgiven” (yourself or others)? Begin to talk to someone helpful about them.

Nightmares can also be caused by medications, drug or alcohol withdrawal, fevers, and untreated mental or physical diseases. Had a recent health exam?

If you awaken from a scary dream and need to go back to sleep, think positive and happy thoughts before lying back down to try to stop the continuation.

If you are really stressed out by your nightmares, your healthcare provider could provide you with anti-anxiety meds or antidepressant which will decrease REM sleep and nightmares.

If you master lucid dreaming, you can stop nightmares before they progress to terror.
