      Song stuck in your head...

I'm sure it's happened to everyone. You get a song stuck in your head, sometimes for days on end. I know it happens to me frequently, but the one that I'm wondering about today only gets stuck in my head after I've had a dream in which I KNOW that I'm dreaming. As I said in an earlier post, most of my dreams are not lucid, but some of them I know that I'm dreaming, I just have no control over the events...the only thing that those dreams ever have in common is that when I wake up from that type of dream, I always have Sarah McLachlan's cover of the Beatles song "Blackbird" stuck in my head. I've only seen I Am Sam once, when it first came out years ago, I do not own the soundtrack, and to my knowledge, I have never heard that song again...except when I wake up from a dream in which I knew that I was dreaming. Does anyone else have a similar experience? What could it mean? Is there a connection between that song and my lucid dreams? I'd like to know what people think.

If it gets stuck in your head after every dream of that sort, then I would say that of course it means something! but what it means, you will have to find out for yourself. I'd say its probably some sort of message from your subconscious.

Perhaps its fairly literal. Listen to the lyrics and ask yourself what you associate them with. What do you associate the song with? What kind of feelings? What kind of thoughts? You said that you heard it in a movie, so what do you associate that movie with?

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
      All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
      All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

      Blackbird fly
      Blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
      All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

At first glance, I would have to say that the lyrics are pretty strong. To me, it signifies the ability to break free of barriers that hold you back. I guess I know that there are a lot of personal things that I have gone through in the past that have kept me at a distance from everyone around me. I've built up a wall. Perhaps it's telling me to use my dreams to come to terms with those things? On the other hand, perhaps it's just a song that I like, so I'm remembering it.

This morning, though, after my non lucid dream, the song stuck in my head was "I Only Wanna Be With You" by Dusty Springfield. I think I was a 50s housewife in my previous life.

Every time I try the WILD technique I keep getting "My Delirium" by Lady Hawke stuck in my head, which is quite ironic.
