      "Attacks" while falling asleep.

Have you ever been falling asleep and then all of a sudden you feel like a large jolt of electricity enter your body and kind of "zap" you and then it leaves? I've had this many times. One time it was in the form of a snake. I actually say it come at me like a big snake full of electricity and it "bit" me and I felt the electricty.

Anyone else have this or know what it is?

      projective catalepsy

It's not uncommon to experience vibrations during sleep paralysis or lucid dreams. I usually get this strong zap in the back of my head, down by my neck, like there's an electric current running through it. It's also not uncommon to have audio/visual hallucinations during sleep paralysis, so if you were somewhat awake during it all, maybe that explains what you saw and felt?

The interesting thing is that people experienced with astral projection claim that these vibrations are exit points to leave the body. Apparently, when the astral body is either leaving or re-entering the physical body, there's this point where you're inside your body but still not perfectly aligned with it, and that's when you have the vibrations and usually can't move. It's called "projective catalepsy". So next time you feel the vibrations, you could try to leave your body and have an OBE... this is something I've been trying to do but with no success.

      Hope that helps..

I don't know if it was sleep paralysis. It hasn't happened for a while, and after it happened I jumped and was able to move. I was perfectly aware when it happened and was trying to fall asleep. It would happen maybe ten minutes after trying to go to sleep.

Amazing i was thinking of posting about a simalar thing that happened to me! It was earlier this week.
I had just woke up from a very real dream and had just started to think about it like you do when you've just woke up after a dream. I was lying on my side when out of nowhere this i felt this huge bolt of what felt like you have described it enter my body at the base of my spine.
It pulled at my lower body and i felt as if i was being pulled away from the bed. It must have lasted no more then 10 seconds but i did feel long at the time. I was unable to move while all this was going on. After it had gone i could move my whole body but when i tried to sleep on my normal side i was always having to turn over or lie on my back as i couldn't sleep with a pain in my back.
      Very weird.
Lets all do something mental like steal a traffic cone.

I know exactly what you mean. I remember hearing the tecnical term once... it was some kind of jerk... anyway, it happens to me all the time, I'm about to drift off to sleep, I think of something like tripping, then WHAM! I'm wide awake... quite anoying actully.

EDIT: Its like all your muscles spasm or "jerk".

That's just weird, sir. I've never had mine last for more than that nanosecond in which it occurs and I have NEVER felt any pain. Just kind of a shock. Not even that, really, just a "jerk" like the dude above me mentioned.

You feel stuff like that just before you enter a dream. If you can you should just relax, or atleast try not to move, you might end up having a WILD.
