A rational person should never overcome their fear of other people--they are not going to be predictably sane any time in the near future. What you have to do is work of the inner strength to live with them. What drives one to do that is the realization that what one wants to accomplish in life is worth the effort of growing a backbone.

Emotion is the material that drives us, use reason to shape it into something productive. One is afraid of water until they learn to swim. If the fail to learn to swim, they simply stay in shallow water or use water wings.

There is another problem akin to this, and that is the bell curve for IQ. It is almost identical for one's available social life. Even mastering fear will not actually change that. Some people make the the appearance of changing it by how they act, however when they are acting, they are not themselves.

As far as public speaking, you learn to focus, not on the crowd but on individual's or points in the crowd. Pretend you are speaking to one.

So Philosopher, you are basically saying that if one has fear of something,He can overcome it by being himself and developing inner strenght.Right?

Yea I have had the same problem and I want to use lucid dreaming for that and I think it would help. I use to be fine with public speaking but then I had a bad incident and now I suck.

Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

Yes, emotion is an ally. It is needed for shaping one's will.

Your confidence was then apparent. Look at the experience as something positive.

LaBerge devotes a chapter in ETWOLD to lucid dream work regarding fears and nightmares. Sorry to say, I haven't read it in a while so I don't remember what exactly he recommends. But it's out there.
I am sure about illusion. I am not so sure about reality.

I haven't tried it myself so I wouldn't know, but I bet it's worth a shot. I don't think it would do me any good since it's not real enough, but then again some dreams are close enough.
