      Dream subjects

Can you change the subject and content of your dreams, without resorting to lucidity? i'm trying to explore myself through my dreams, which means that i have to not control them, in order to get the full message of them. What i want to know is, can i dream of spiritual guidance, that is, i want dreams that are going to enable me to look inside myself and gradually become the person i want to be.
I seem to dream about the same old things all the time...to the point that i don't have to do much homework to interpret them.
I have recently become aware of my 'spirituality' if you like, and i want to explore this through my subconcious, and see what i can unlock, but i have no idea where to begin. I realise that if you think about something enough, you dream about it, being as i can often summon dream characters, just by thinking about them through the day, and then they appear in my dreams at night.
i guess the term i want is 'higher dreams'
      any ideas???

If you ever consciously access your Dream Self’s Memory, as when you become Lucid, simply ask yourself when the last time you were at that particular dream scene, you will more than likely be flooded with a torrent of memories which will indicate that the Dream Self has quite a full life all by itself, apart from the visits your Consciousness take to it while you are in your short REM Cycles. Your Dream Self is probably in its Dreams 24 hours a day, whether your Conscious Mind is there to participate in the conscious experience or not. So, in this 24 hour a day program, much ordinary ‘day to day’ business is conducted. This is where Lucidity can come in handy. When you become Lucid and find yourself in what appears to be a non-descript and unimportant dream scene, you can say to all present, “Excuse me, I have an appointment I must keep”. Then I go outside, focus, and then Levitate up several thousand feet and then descend, expecting fully to come down into a Special Dream Scene that my Higher Mind had prepared for this next Lucid Moment.

But if your dreams are always repeating around a motif that you can clearly identify, then you need to evaluate what your actions and responses have been, and what they could be. Once on the Spiritual Path, there will be Tests, and you cannot move on until you first get certain things right.

But the habit of Lucidity does seem to spur the Dream Self into a higher life. If your Lucidity has often prompted your Dream Self out of low company and into higher spiritual pursuits, then in your Dream Self’s 24 hour a day habit and routines, that you never know about until you access your dream self’s memory, might be lifted to a new level.

Also, remember that as the Subconscious Mind can influence the Conscious Mind, in the same way the Conscious Mind can influence the Subconscious Mind. Throughout the day suggest down deep that your Dream Self not be wasting its time but engage itself in worthwhile pursuits such as climbing the Mountain of Wisdom or plunging into the depths of the Sea of Emotional Intuition. Or if you are obviously stuck – for years I was finding myself in Dream University perpetually unprepared for the term examinations. Well, I needed to tell myself during the day that my dream self needed to find the Course Schedules, attend the lectures, read the assigned readings and study a bit from each Course I was taking everyday, and finally PASS all that crap and leave it behind… or simply drop out. Once when I accessed my dream memory, it occurred to me that I had more than 4 degrees, so I asked myself, “what am I still doing here?”

Now it takes some thought and discernment to figure out just what the right course of action should be, but that’s okay… you have a lifetime to figure it out, no?

yes, i will have to try that. something along the lines of 'i will not waste my dream time on silly pursuits!'
because they are getting rather pointless i feel. Almost to the point where i am thinking, 'what's the point of dreaming?'
then again, if i keep seeing the same things over and over, something isn't right somewhere...

It's been such a long time since i had a dream that i really got into, and wanted to understand.

      I TAKE IT BACK!!

i went to bed last night, and the last thing i said out loud was, 'now, for god's sake go to sleep and dream of something sensible. And the dream i had was more disturbing than anything for months.
although i think that's good in a way...it means my subconcious is registering things...

Yep, that most likely is good (I think lol) I find I have to be careful at times on what I ask my subconscious to do for me in the way of dreams. I personally think my subconscious is a brat

One time as I was going to sleep at night, the thought of ghosts was on my mind as I wondered if my house was haunted. So just as I was falling asleep, I told my subconscious that if there was indeed a ghost, for it to show itself. Well, ummm I had what was close to a nightmare as I dreamt that there was this evil presence in a room that was trying to kill me. It was a little bit of an overkill on the ghost dream that's for sure.

Than I've before asked to dream about vampires, but I get sharks (see the resemblance there? frightening, big teeth? Like I said ... a brat!

I don't have a lot of experience at lucid dreaming but I do read a lot about it. Many authors say you can just ask for wisdom or ask a wise DC if he can help you. If you have someone in mind that you think would be of help to you then try expecting to meet that person. They might be in another room when you go threw a door. Again I don't have a lot of experience in dream control or incubation but I am going to try this sometime. Thinking about the person I would like to meet only instead of focusing my eyes directly for that person or image I would keep in mind a peripheral vision that they my come into first. I don't know if that’s possible but it would be like you looking at the monitor right now, only you still can see other things in the room around, but your just not focused on them yet. When the thing you want to see starts to come into your peripheral vision it may have a better chance at materializing. Does that make any sense? Well if it works, let me know. Because I am anxious to try it. 8)

I generally find it helps to ask myself a moral/ethical question before I go to bed, and to think about it until I fall asleep. Then, even if it doesn't come into my LD (but it generally does) then it will usually be dealt with at least during pre-REM deep sleep. Either way, I generally have a decent answer by the time I get up in the morning.

P.S. To the religious, praying for answers also works. I've never had a prayer like this that wasn't answered.
It is important that we do not judge these few unbiased moments of our lives, but take them as they are. There is no nightmare for the lucid dreamer, nor no shadows on the mind.
