Do you like lucid dreaming being unique?

Well I told a few people today about my most recent lucid dream (which will be posted on my dj here later today) in which I told a DC that I was dreaming and they only existed because of me. One person that I told said that it was cool and unique that I was able to be consciously aware that I was dreaming and she asked me if I had seen inception. Another person said that it reminded her of tron with me being aware of the fact that I am in a world of my own creation and that everyone in that world is made by me.

So I guess to the masses LDing would appear as something like Tron or Inception. Both wonderful movies with good LD concepts.

More like a work your ass off club. The population at large is lazy.

Majority of people (at least in the US, especially in the south*) are either too stupid, ignorant or close-minded to be open to LDing. Which is fine with me, I don't want Bill O'Reily worrying what I'm doing in my head. But I do wish that there were more people I could talk to about the phenomenon. That's why I'm glad I found you guys! :-P

Intelligence and Lucid Dreaming have no relation to each other.

But you need an open mind to lucid dream at first. :roll:

I don't think its as much about how capable an idiot is about LDing as much as it is about how much an idiot could poison the community. Or rather, a cluster of them. I think we'd all prefer a community devoid of those kinds of people.

Yes WaterKnight a below intelligence person should be able to LD as well as anyone...HOWEVER, someone who is generally stupid and close-minded is probably not going going to be open to learning it...

I strongly agree with this. After I started having LD's it was an extraordinary feat and I didn't know who to talk to about it. The one close friend I told found it very appealing, but expects it to happen for him so easily. I've studied LDing casually off and on for a few years before I finally had my first one.

I hope it never goes main stream personally, and feel like it should be something that is earned through patience.

I've only got one friend who doesn't think it's really weird that I devote time to practicing Lucid Dreaming and we have a quite a similar mindset. I'm pretty sure if we did a personality test for every person on here and compared it with the general population we'd see a few differences.

But that's why I like the way it is, everybody on this forum is here for a common purpose and I rarely encounter any conflict. If it started to attract more people then a whole load of arseholes and idiots would come flooding in.

I told a friend about it, but they've said nothing about it since. Makes me mad 'cause I'm like "I just told you about something that can change your life and you FUCKING IGNORE IT?!?"

Nah, I wouldn't want it to become well known. I mean, as for new methods and stuff yeah, but I think that at the moment we're pretty well off. I would hate to go to school and everyone be like "OMG like that lucid dreaming thingy blah blah blah".

And yeah, I'm being selfish in the fact it makes me feel special :P

Well I consider myself pretty smart but when I first told the smartest person I know about lucid dreaming he said it was impossible. The most recent time he said that it may be possible but hes never experienced it. Then Ive seen complete idiots who are proficient lucid dreamers. But they are also naturals. An idiot whos not a natural probably wouldnt work to have a LD.

But yeah out of the 2500 students in my school I have confirmed that at least 6, including myself, are lucid dreamers. I havent done any surveyes to know for sure how many but just talking with people Ive found out about them.

It's a way to stop yourself from being on fire. It is also a scam from lucidology.

Most of my views have already been said. As Cracked once wrote, about 95% of the population would use it as a 3D Jessica Alba sex generator. Fact is, it's just too hard to get into for most people.

lucid dreaming will be unique whether a small group of people can do it or everyone can do it. Everyone will have their own unique dreams and goals to achieve in their dreams so i don't think it would matter how many people could do it.

Not at all. When I bring this up with people, some say they don't dream and some usually talk about a LD they had without knowing it was a real studied thing. I turned a kid onto just dreaming because I was talking about how I remembered 6 dreams one night. I told him to write his dreams down and the next day he said he remembered one which made me happy. He later got to remember 3-5 a night but than stopped because it's a tedious job if you're not shooting to LD. I also did a speech on it in public speaking class and I know some think I'm a whack job but my teacher told me about how she had a crazy dream when she was pregnant and a old friend said he had one when he was young.

I know that a lot of people that I speak to LD'ing about look at me like I'm crazy. I really don't mind it that much, though. I don't think that LD'ing will ever truly become completely mainstream. If ever there was a time that that could have happened, it would have been this last summer with the release of Inception. I think that the movie may have (slightly) raised awareness about the topic, and it has definitely made it easier to explain LD'ing to those who are not familiar with it. But again, I think that the LD community will always remain fairly small.

saying that dreaming would go into the mainstream with inception is to me like saying gaming would go into the mainstream with the sega genesis. It was an amazing console but only the people who already played games were really interested in it. The Wii however has brought gaming into the mainstream (at the expense of many gamers) So I think it is only a matter of time until lucid dreaming goes mainstream. And im sure it will hurt us just like the gaming industry has hurt a lot of us gamers.

I dont want that to happen but I do want there to be more lucid dreamers and for the topic to become more acceptable. Talking about lucid dreaming is like talking about religion in northern states. Its not really wrong its just not done much.

I think lucid dreaming could become about as popular and well known as meditation, but that's about it. I can't see it having a negative effect on the already existing LDing community, actually it would be nice to have more people to talk to about it. Maybe then I could get one of my buddies to try and dream share with me :)

With everything it would have its pros and its cons. The most likely thing I think would happen is it would turn into a short lived fad. "Your just not cool unless you do it." Then "oh that ya that was fun months ago."
Everyone would come up with new and more involved schemes, and ability to find quality information would go WAY down. "Ya just by this book and sleep mask, and secret plant extract and you can incept 4 layers deep!!"
Of course there would also be people sensationalizing things. Like what was said, "Can your dreams turn you into a killer?"

On the other hand as popularity spreads I would hope at least some people would have a respect for it and properly utilize lucid dreaming. This would give the chance for new innovations. New applications for lucid dreaming, increase its use in legitimate psychological situations (curing phobias, etc.).
An increase on popularity could also lead to advances in the ability to produce them and remember dreams. It may be a little difficult to sort out real advances from scams but it could create value to the community.

Woah, man. Gaming was way past mainstream by the time the Wii came along. Everybody knew about it in the '80s.

Whereas with LD, nobody knows until you explain it to them. You say Pac-Man and everybody knows what's up. Even back in the day.

But it wasnt something that you hear people talking about every day. Since well both the xbox 360 and the wii you cant deny that a HUGE swell of new "gamers" came in. And people that never played games at all before suddenly started going around talking about nothing but games and saying things like "you arent a gamer unless you play _____" Ill admit mainstream was wrong word but it got pushed into over popular. What Im saying is that Inception was a good boost to get lucid dreaming known (I didnt join the forum before Inception came out so I dont know what things were like here but I was a lucid dreamer before inception), eventually there will be something else to come along that will make lucid dreaming and dreaming in general something that will be talked about all over the world on a large scale. It will just take a drug or something to instantly induce a lucid dream but im sure it will happen one day.

I've tryed to tell other people about lucid dreaming, but they really just ignore it. It seems most people aren't interested in lucid dreaming. Go figure. Altough I've managed to get my brother and a friend of mine into lucid dreaming. My brother also got some of his friends into LDing too. I would like more people to share my lucid draeming stories with, but as some people have said in this topic, I fear that if it became too popular people would begin to distort it.

Interesting topic indeed. I would never withhold information about lucid dreaming to anyone who wanted to listen, but it seems most people just don't understand what its like and the possibilities. I certainly don't see it becoming mainstream any time soon, but I wouldn't be against it. If people distort it, so be it. It doesn't bother me...I shall continue to lucid dream no matter how many anti-lucidity groups/protesters formed. Its not like they can ban dreaming :P. I really just wish I could get one of my friends to get into it as well, but they either don't believe me or they are just too lazy to really try, lol.
