      Voice dream journals.

Last night I started using digital tape to record my rundown of dreams.

The reason I tried this is because when I wake up in the middle of the night and I want to right down my dream, I have to turn on the light, enjoy one of those "ow, my eyes" headaches, write down the stuff (illegibly), and then have trouble getting back to sleep. My idea is that with the tape recorder I can roll over, press record, talk about the dream, then go back to sleep. Last night was a good night, I probably recorded 5-6 dreams (I also had taken magnesium and a b-complex).

My questions are for those who have used this method:
Should I copy these over to paper and pencil/pen, or will they serve their purpose when I play them over before I go to bed? How have you implemented this method? Any other suggestions?

Also, this question is for everybody:
After doing this dream journal thing for over two years now, I can't read all of my entries before I go to sleep... I'd have to get started at like 3 in the afternoon and I'd only get through the first few months. What should I do as far as archiving and what should I be looking over before I go to sleep?

Lastly, DC's have been accusing me of messing around with their girlfriend's. I keep trying to assure them that I'm not, but with all of the time gaps in dreams, I don't sound too convincing. Should I just slap them upside the head with a trout and run away?

      Thank you.
      Mr. Id.

That's a problem with taping your dreams.
There is a problem also if you want to add something you forgot. Moreover, I it difficult to run through the archive if you want to find a specific dream. And no doubt that you will end up having a library...with tapes of your Dreams.

If I were you, I would just write down the major points of the dream...and when I would wake up in the morning I would compose it.

Finally, you can tape your dreams and then in the morning listen to your tape and write them down. Then for your next dream just overwrite the same tape. However, this takes double time instead of writing them down instantly.

The problem I had with voice recording my dreams is that it would wake me up too much from having to speak, plus my voice isn't reconizable some of the time from the morning voice. I also wrote down my dreams in the morning but it took a lot of time to listen and write.
What works for me great now is that I use a flash light for light source when I'm recording in the middle of the night. So when I'm trying to remember parts of the dream I have it off and when I go to write I turn it on. It saves the batterey this way plus helps me remember dreams becuase there's no light interference. Now I record my dreams onto computer (microsoft word) in the morning and take the notes I wrote about the dreams in the middle of the night and read them and get back into the dream mentally and record everything I can remember. Plus I can type much faster than I can write (and it's legitable)
