Lucids: Small Guide and My Experiences.

Hello, I'm a new member to the forum, but i've been reading posts here for awhile.

PLEASE don't lock this thread, if it's in the wrong section move it for me, or if that's not possible let me know so i can copy/paste it to another part of the forums myself.

First of all i want to say i was (almost) born lucid dreaming. I've done it since i was VERY young, as in less than 3 years old, and still continue to lucid in around 80% of dreams i remember. I'm very experienced inside of lucids, and know how to keep one going for a long time, and keep things generally on track with how i want it.

I'll start this whole thing off with my two favorite ways to enter a lucid.

The first is a reality check. I got into a habit when i was little of pinching myself whenever something really awesome happened so i knew i wasn't dreaming, as awesome things tended to happen in my dreams, and i'd wake up and realize it wasn't there. So now whenever i have the SLIGHTEST feeling i may be dreaming, i just pinch myself. In a dream there will either be no feeling, or it will be EXTREMELY faint. Only occasionally is it more than that, and it's easy to discern between the feeling of a pinch in reality versus a dream.

Second. You know those nights where you wake up, but your not fully awake, and fall asleep within five seconds again? Yes, these can easily be used to lucid. I don't know whether this is mentioned on the forums, i've read about getting up for 30 minutes and walking around, but if you just roll off the bed or something too where your BARELY awake, and simply go back to sleep, i recognize myself dreaming immediately.
The trick with this is, you have to be aware enough to recognize your surroundings (im guessing this works best when you sleep in the same place all the time), but asleep enough to not be aware of much else at all. Simply follow this slight thought you might be dreaming with a reality check, and then bam, go off and do whatever you want too in you lucid.

EDIT TO THE ABOVE TECHNIQUE: This is a HUNDRED times easier if you wake up remembering the dream you were having, and then
fall back asleep thinking about the dream, the exact moment you got knocked out of the dream, and you'll be put back in the SAME dream.

Those are my two main ways of going lucid. In ALL lucids i at some point did a reality check, just to confirm i was dreaming. Occasionally i'll get the notion i'm dreaming in just a random nightly dream, i'd say once a week or two.

Getting inside the dream for me was always the easiest part. Realizing i was dreaming was pretty easy too. Staying inside a dream was always hardest.

Tips for Staying Inside a Dream:

Don't get over excited when you go lucid. This'll end a dream faster than anything.
Don't get scared, angry, happy, really anything. Suppress all emotions, too much of any emotion and you'll wake up.
Do NOT doubt your power. That sounds weird, lol, but it's true. If you really want something to happen, if you doubt that it will, it won't. Simple as that.
After a few lucids you can tell when it's gonna end, due to being over excited or whatever, and you can recognize this feeling.

      Spin on your heels.

Not kidding, lean onto your heels and repeatedly spin in circles. If it works, you'll most likely be in a COMPLETELY different location, and may not even know your dreaming anymore.

A good exercise for learning to stay in lucids, is simply looking for someone. Once you have down the act of realizing your dreaming, and not falling out of it immediately, you can start doing "exercises". The most effective one i found is to simply search for someone. Not someone you have any particular connection to, someone who you neither hate or love. Get them in your head, will them into your dreamscape, and walk around looking for them.

The first thing i wanted to do once i learned how to manipulate lucids was fly. Give myself an amazing set of wings, and fly around everywhere. Honestly, that was the hardest thing for me to learn how to do. The being scared of falling, mixed with excitement, is overwhelming. You have to keep that down, while constantly keeping your doubts about it not working down.

A good step in the right direction towards flight or anything really fun/exciting would be running. Learn how to run without getting overwhelmed with feeling, run around looking for somebody, or take a run around the block your on. Running still can be a little hard for me sometimes, i start to lose touch after a minute-ish of running inside the dream.

Also, just so you all know, i'm 15 years old and now a Sophomore in high school. I know there are PLENTY of older users on this forum, and put this in what is about the middle/end of my post so my age wouldn't affect your thoughts about my knowledge / experience. I've been able to lucid my whole life, and started being able to manipulate my lucids at 10ish, getting really good at it around 13.

I plan to add more to this post, but I'm tired, I'll add later.

If ANYONE has ANY questions on lucids, whether it be some of my experiences, general questions, or more tips, just reply to this thread, i'll be glad to help with any of it. Thanks for reading, check back often for more.

Seems like a good guide, also, I've noticed the thing with waking up like 5 seconds or something, whenever that happens to me, I am almost guaranteed a lucid dream or more.

Heh wow, this is a very bumpy thread... like as bumpy as the street I live on!!

First, welcome to DV and congratulations on being a natural! (and I HATE you!!! )

Very smart move, not saying your age till near the end... very smart indeed!! But then smart has little to do with age.

As for pinching yourself as a reality check, while it's probably THE most popular method in movies and situation comedies, I haven't seen it discussed in here before. But I haven't been around all that much, so it possibly was and I just missed it. I might need to start trying that one.

The other thing you brought up, about waking up and immediately falling back into the same dream, is actually a very well-known technique around here, called a DEILD or Dream-Exit Induced Lucid Dream. But still thank you for sharing your approach to it... it's always nice to hear these things from a different perspective.

      Cool name too...

Thank you. I also find when i take a long nap late at night, say from 10 pm to 12 pm, stay up until around 5-6 am, I tend to wake up a LOT in the middle of dreams, and can have multiple lucids.

And i made the name Scipher (sigh-fer) a long time ago for a book i was writing (3rd grade)? As a project. At some point a site required a longer name than Scipher as a username, so i added neo to it, i can't remember exactly why.

Thanks, but i still have a ways to go.

There's so many possibilities, inventions, entire cities to be built inside of these dreams. I want to push the limits and see what those limits really are.

But first, i need to improve my dream recall
