right before i go to sleep

When i lay down to go to bed, it will take me around five minutes to fall asleep. Sometimes more or sometimes less. As i am drifting off into sleep i will realize something. Its like i am going directly into a dream. Sometimes i only see it. Sometimes i can only hear it. Other times it is both. They are really quick too bc when i recognize them with my conscious mind they go away and i realize my surroundings. There will be a few of them a night. Are these just ideas from my waking life that are being inverted into my subconscious mind? If so, how can i take conscious control of them without them slipping away from me?
Does anyone know what I am talking about? Please explain

I think those are hypnagogic imagery and sounds. You usually experience them when attempting WILD, but it's also possible to have those when you're going to sleep normally.

They're not really dream yet, and so you can't really control or even concentrate much on them. If you experience those when going to sleep at evening, they won't develop to dream. But if you go for WILD (sleep 5-6 hours, wake up, back to sleep) and experience those, you will most likely get into dream after a little while.
Don't think about those damn kangaroos.

Yep, hate explained it fairly well there.

Just one technical correction - AFAIK the hypnagogic dreams will actually end up becoming a full dream even when you go to sleep in the evening, BUT it only lasts a few seconds anyway and usually one looses consciousness too easily it happens.

You should try that idea of doing a WILD and letting the HI (hypnagogic imagery) turn into a dream - it's usually pretty wierd stuff!
