Do people normally wake up and still have lingering dreams?

I woke up this morning half awake and I think there was still a little sleep lingering there. A couple of times wile I was deciding if I should get up or not I still had voices or thoughts that seemed dream like. I’m thinking haaa where did that come from. I thought about trying to incubate a dream and go back into one but all I could hear was the thump, thump of the neighbors playing their load music. So I gave up on the idea. One of the voices or thoughts I heard I remember well. It seemed like I said or thought “I’m 80 years old but a baby to lucid dreaming” I thought hummm were did that come from. Do people normally wake up and still have lingering dreams?

Yep thats entirely normal. I had a dream about someone getting murdered once and still heard the screams as I was waking up. There was noone getting hurt htough in real life. I asked the neighbors. lol. Sometimes I will hear breaking glass as Im waking up too.

I've had that happen. I find it's most apparent with emotions, but occasionally with other feelings. My latest one I will keep to myself, but I've had several others. Once, in a dream I was completely convinced that my brother had stolen my parakeet and throughout the whole day I felt kind of bitter towards him, even though I knew it had been a dream. Another time, I was dreaming that everyone hated me and so I started crying. I was still crying when I woke up and it was a good couple of minutes before I realized that I was dreaming.

      Crazy stuff

Sometimes if I've slept too little and I've woken up sort of unwillingly, to go to school. I sort of float in and out between dreams and being awake, my subconsciousness is saying get up while I want to sleep, so I can have about 6 short dreams where all of them are suddenly cut off because I remind myself of getting up.

It doesn't usually happen for me, but I did experience it for the first time a few weeks ago. My mom was basically setting fire to the house in order to get me out of bed (or something as equally attention grabbing, heh-heh) and so I got out, still dreaming, and I was putting my school clothes on and at the same time I was dreaming, and I almost fell over because of that, I think.

Having lingering dreams is almost the same as the hypnagogic hallucinations you have before going to sleep. You get stuck in a state between dreaming and awareness, and that's why you can hear or see sounds or images from the dream even though you believe you are fully awake. It happens to me almost every morning, sometimes it can extemely annoying because you cant really remember if what happend was for real or not!

I get the same thing in both directions...

Once I was having a bowl of cerial right at the end of a dream, and when I woke up, for a split second I saw te bowl in front of me on my pillow, clear as day, then it was gone- I was even face down with my arms in a position to grab the spoon.

A more recent dream was when I was woken up by the phone ringing. Normally a sound wakes me up straight off, but this time I was too far into the dream. My and the DC's were running around trying to find the phone, then when one of them finally found it, he picked it up and was like 'wtf?! there's no one there! It's still ringing!'
Then right at that moment all the DCs looked right at me and I recognized the ring as our RL phone, and I was like 'well... shit.' and woke up with unpleasant haste.

This took, like, 60 seconds to wake me up I was so far under.
