      When I woke up

A couple days ago I woke up and I was breathing REALY heavily and rapidly, like I didn't have any breath at all, and I couldn't remember any dream I had before I woke up. I remember this happening either when I went to sleep that night or woke up in the middle of the night though.

What happened to make that happen to me? Could I have had a nightmare or something?

Yes, somthing like that. I remember one time in a non-lucid dream I had to run through a bunch of smoke and hold my breath. Turns out I was holding my breath really and I woke up, having to take a deep breath.

yeah i think dreams make you kind of want to act them out but the paralysis you experience in your sleep stops that, but it seems that your breathing is actually affected. - quite normal, as long as you wake up when you need to strart breathing normally!

Young Children, at the ages from about 4 to 7 I believe, can have what are called Night Terrors -- they wake up screaming bloody murder, but typically can't remember the dreams that so frightened them.

It is often not necessary to remember everything.

Indeed, I once had a dream in which this one rather vindictive Gurui told me that in punishment for a moment's inattention to one of his belabored stories that I would be made to forget the entire dream. Well, I awoke, and I could not remember a thing, but felt all of the symptoms of having been in a higher spiritual presence -- all of my higher chakras were buzzing. So I would not let it go and kept digging into my short-term memory until the Higher Self that had cut off the memory relented to the degree of having me remember the Dream, that is everything about the dream except I was not able to remember a single word of the Story which the Guru thought so very important.
