Trying to figure out how much or little focus is needed for WILDs

I can never consciously falling asleep while focusing on something. I'll usually just sit in bed for hours on end. I think I'm focusing too much. Sadly the only time I can fall asleep that way is when I unconsciously do it.

Isn't this essentially what the WILD techniques do? I mean you don't actually stay conscious and focused the entire time do you? While you perform the various techniques you ease a lot of your focus away but still remember your intent? Or am I really confused on this?

      Moved to WILD

and well, you just want to keep your mind focused on something. Usually the intent of lucid dreaming, maybe a mantra (even the ahhmm mantra is valid), keeping anchored by the tick of the clock, your breathing, etc. Don't clutter your mind though, just try to stay relaxed and focus on little things.

Actually, I can't really be conscious at all. I feel like it's just a personal thing, though. Plenty of the guides make it sound like you're completely present and aware of the transition, but all the times I've done it, I've essentially been asleep. The alarm wakes me up and I spend the next maybe half hour kind of floating back into sleep. I'll recite a few mantras, but mostly I'll let my mind wander, without being aware of each thought passing. Basically I'll just fall asleep. I don't even feel sleep paralysis because I'm all in my head. My HI (vibrations) will sort of wake me up, and I'll ride the sensations into my dream.
