      Was I Lucid dreaming?

Im a newbie at lucid dreaming and Ive had two similar dreams were its been vivid and when im in the dream ive done reality check and know im dreaming. But things still seem to happen like a regular dream i seem to be in semi control of my self and in no control of the things around me. Is this lucid because ive heard different. Lots of the time i seem to know what im doing but dont remember how I got there ???????

      Yep, that's a lucid dream.

Lucid dreaming doesn't exactly mean you can control it. It just means awareness. Congratulations on your first LD and I hope you have one with more control in the future.

Yes, as enak101 said, lucid dreaming is when you know you're dreaming. Just because you are lucid does not necessarily mean something extraordinary will happen The reason why you do not remember why you got there might be because you didn't experience it at all. For some reason when we dream, we skip the travelling and get straight into the 'plot' of the dream.
      PS congratulations on your lucid!

Semi lucid is just a term we use on the site. In reality there is only lucid and non lucid. Lucid means you know you are dreaming, non lucid means you do not. Thus, even if you are 'semi lucid', know you are dreaming but cannot control, you are technically still lucid.

It's possible you just dreamed that you were performing a reality check and thought you were dreaming but I'd say you were lucid. Being lucid however doesn't actually mean you have full control over things. It's like being in the passenger seat of a car, you can go along for the ride but you can't drive.

Dream control is a skill learned seperately from lucidity; there are guides about it in the dream control forum which will probably help. It's mostly about learning to believe that what you are attempting is possible, which is surprisingly difficult.

As people have mentioned above, there are shades of lucidity. You just probably experienced a weak sort of lucidity. You can realise it is a dream but still have trouble controlling the proceedings. You just need to work on being able to gain full control once you become lucid.
