      Why fly?

I think a lot of people, like me, wish they could fly in their dreams, if they haven't already. But what is it about flying that is so appealing to us? It's something we cant physically do, but then again so is wallclimbing( like spiderman) or having superhuman strength. Maybe it goes with the idea of just rising in the sky above everyone and in doing so leaving behind all your troubles and worries or something like that. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, and I just found this place so sorry if this topic has already been posted before.

I think most people dig flying because it is an easy skill to learn. It feels "real." As far as we know anyway, what with all the drops in your stomache like on a rollercoaster and everything. Freud thought it was a sexual dream since rising was symbolic to him of having an erection. Psychologists today don't think that anymore. Maybe a non-lucid flying experience will have some symbolism to it, like rising above some kind of bad situation as a way to escape. Lucid flying, however, is just fun (in my opinion).

      Uhhh duh!

      Because flying feels so cool,
Whenever I have flown it is the coolest feeling. Lucid or non lucid.
If you haven't flown in a dream you wouldn't known. but when you do. you'll understand...

      Peace

People have looked up at the sky at birds and wanted to fly since day one. So once you can its a blast and a good way to explore places you never been at a swift pace.

many of times i have used flying to escape the danger or the uncomfortable situation tthat i can leave behind by flying...maybe i,m runnin away from situations in reality..i usually fly by flapping my arms..it takes great energy and can lift me from ground position..but i too love to float off of high places.

It's pure freedom. It lets us go beyond the most ubiquitous restriction we face: gravity.

If I suddenly had the power to do anything I wanted in real life, I wonder if I'd try flying or if that's just a dream thing?

I'll echo what everyone else has said, flying is just plain fun!
Soaring up into the air, making graceful banks, diving.
Last night I had one of the most vivid LDs I've had in a while. I know I have a lot I want to accomplish and shouldn't waste the opportunity, but last night I went flying!
The sky was blue and there wasn't a single cloud. The sun was warm on my body, and the Cherry trees were in bloom.
      Very nice!

In dreams, been out naked or in my underware a lot. Standard anxiety stuff and a dreamsign.
Seems when I become lucid that I don't notice (or mind) it anymore.

...for me, it feels like memory, something I once knew, the breath of the eair on my wings, every movement i make is in relation the the currents of air, its like being part of something much greater than yourself, submitting to it, its not like being in an airplane, there is no such thing as turbulance, you move and react to the currents fluidly....

I am sucha panzy... I just flew out to the west coast the other day and when we took off.. I almost started crying... im a 24 year old guy... it... just feels right for me... it feels like home, one of the most painful things I have experienced is the longning and the feel that above the clouds is home to me... but at the same time.. I am stuck inside of a big aluminum and steel can. =(

i wound'nt classify you as a pansy, thats actaully similar to what i feel...i feel like i am in control of the world, on the top of it...and just free of all my cares, they get brushed away with the wind that rushes through my hair.

this torment inside me is growin', like a flower in the spring time rain, but all i feel is dismay.[/b]
