Does a blind person dream in REM?

With all respect to a person that struggles with the absence of sight, I was curious of something. If a person has never had their sight, what kind of dreams would they have? If anyone has any input on this subject or insights please post. One added thought. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement and is present in most cases when we dream. The REM is believed to be related to the eyes looking at things in the dream. You C what I’m getting at.

Wow. I've never really thought of that. Wonderful theory. My guess is that they would only dream of what they can infer to reality.....I still think they would dream....weird...>_>

Well our biggest sense input is vision. Maybe they have dreams that content are made from senses that are primary to them, like audio? There would have to be some activity going on though.

If you use the 'search' option above you can find lots ofuseful information regarding this question, i remember someone making a fascinating post on the subject of blind people and REM cycles (colour perception etc) but i cant be arsed finding it again as it was AGES ago and i'm lazy (lol).

Guess putting in "Blindness+REM" might come up with some interesting posts.

      .
According to Stephen LaBerge (psychologist) in one of his books he talks about dreams being the substance of schemas or scripts that are the building blocks of not only dreams but are the same parts that come together to make a model of the real world. Just a brief description of how this occurs. He gives a few examples, one being similar to the following. Read the next paragraph (1). and time it to see how long it takes you to read it. Then read the second (2) and time it. It should take longer for the second even though the words are the same, just not arranged the same.
      .
(1). If you are reading this then what I am going to ask you to do is not only read this paragraph but the next one also. They both have the same words but this one is structured in proper sequence so the time that it takes you to read it should be less then the time it takes to read the next paragraph * took me22 seconds*

(2). It takes to read If am going you reading what I to ask do is not only this then read this you to paragraph but one also. Have next the next the same paragraph are They both but this words one is structured time that it takes in proper sequence read it should the you to then the next paragraph be less so the time * took me44 seconds*

Why this is, is because of expectations. You expect a general set of words to follow because of sentence structure when they’re in proper sequence. The model in your mind that perceives reality is how we see the world. In a dream it’s the same model coming together to create a perceived worlds less any more input from the outer senses. You could say its memory from your hearing schema visual schema feeling schema etcetera. How can a blind person have schema from sight. They may not at all is my point.I would think that they’re every day experience including the heightened sense of hearing and feeling might be what they dream of but not sure.
