I think it just 'feels' that way to you. You've probably read about or seen documentaries on the scientific and medical progress made throughout history, and you think: "How far we've come"... And then you look at the changes that occured in your own life, and you think... "Hey, we've slowed down, this is silly"... but realize that the giant leaps and bounds we've made were over thousands of years. Someone living in the era where people cured common colds by bleeding the patient (victim hehe) might have asked the same question you just asked... and I bet 1000 years from now, people will look at OUR history and say "damn, people were stupid and backwards then" and wonder if it's all worth it, and so on and so forth. |
