The 100% efficient RC for me would have to be pinching the nose and trying to breath through it, it just works all the time.

I normally do first that one, then I look at my hands to see if their normal and then I re-read something to see if it changes, but since the first one always works, I've never done the other two in a dream!

I once tried the finger through the palm RC several times in a dream and it never worked.

I find the finger through palm method is crap... But I'm sure it works for others.

My favourite (which never fails): Look at my hands. It's very reliable, and doesn't even look stupid. It's very casual. Interestingly, it only seems to work on my RIGHT hand lol.

I dont have exprirence with that one, but I've heard its not foolproof. But if it works for you, more power to ya.

It isn't foolproof. Every now and then, i'll look at it and it'll be normal (very rarely). But it usually shifts to "messed up" again quickly... and the deformation is different every time, it's kind of weird.

I've been trying to dial phone numbers as a RC. In my dreams when I try to call anybody it never works properly because the numbers on the keypad are never in the correct spot and often change position even while I'm dialing the number. Try it! What happens to you guys when you try to use the phone in your dreams??

      Hello,

My favorite Reality Check is looking into a mirror. The reflection of your image is usually so flawless that it immediately induces a thrilling "Ah ha" moment.

I don't recall that I've ever done a reality check before. I always just assume I'm dreaming and go with the flow. If I start questioning the dream I sometimes risk losing it.

I guess you could call this a reality check though: If I am not positive I'm dreaming I will ask myself "How did I get here?"... If it's a dream you won't be able to figure out how. Same might happen if you pass out drunk though, so don't go jumping out any windows thinking you are dreaming.
Never stop searching for truth. In your search you may think you have found it, and perhaps you have, but if you hold on tightly to a single thread it will fray and it's greater meaning will become lost. There is always more truth stretching deep beneath the surface that promises to reveal ever greater the infinite, interwoven fabric of truth, woven in the looms of Heaven.

im a bit confused, I read somewhere that RC's are done regularly when ur awake so that you start doing them when you are dreaming aswell, thus realising you are in a dream. So dont you want an RC that you can do anywhere offhand easily?

sorry if its an obvious question!

I needed one last night, that's for sure. But, saying that, I'm glad I didn't find out it was a dream .

i dont think dreaming about doing an RC in a dream will get anyone lucid. i think RCs are what u do to prove to your lucid self that you are not awake. ive dreamed about doing RCs and didnt get lucid.

      Hi Potta,

You are correct. Usually the term "Reality Check" refers to a method you implement while awake. That is why I mentioned "looking in a mirror." This is something I can practice while awake, but also during a dream.

However, just looking around at your environment during the day can serve as Reality Check. In this way, you train yourself to "look around" in your dream and ask "Is this real" and hence, enter LD.

Yeah. I try to do "awareness checks" very often. I basically just look around to see if everything is where it should be, then I ask myself how I got there. If I know how I got there I start rewinding my whole day till reach the point where I woke up, then I ask myself if everything that happened is normal and if it seems in any way dream-like. I've already been lucid thanx to these awareness checks, they're very practical, besides, normal RCs tend to become obsolete if you use them too often, cuz your mind just adapts and integrates them into your dream reality.

alright, i love turning the lights on and off:
i was at the doctors, and you try to do it, and they just stay on.
and then, at my house the bulb burned out.

sometimes mechanical failure is just mechanical failure.
or maybe it was a dream...

I guess it's possible.. it definately wasn't my intention! (I did state that these things don't work for me.. not that they don't work for everyone.. but I guess it could have been read that way.)

Also I often see where people state that they can't read in their dreams yet I still find that I can read in mine.

It's so funny when I think back to the dreams that I have had in which I try to read. Its always just a bunch of prepositions and what not: In above the over which down and what to neither.
I always try SO hard in my dreams to follow the story. Yeah, its wierd, cuz I never think, "HEY! I'M DREAMING!" its always "God, this book sucks."
