The struggle is real.
Does anybody else get extremely frustrated with lucid dreaming? I have been trying lucid dreaming for almost a year now and still have had little success. Every lucid dream I've had has either been foggy or about 5 minutes in length. It's really annoying because I spend a lot of time writing down my dreams and reading about lucid dreaming. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips or similar feelings. I know I'm still somewhat new so I'm sure I'll get better as time goes on but still... XD

Yes. It is a struggle to stay consistent with anything. It is only eased up if you find people to walk behind and with on the road to it.

Hi,
Dreams tend to be short and low quality at times.
If you want to increase their quality and time you spend with them you should read some stuff about Dream Control & Dream Stabilization
For example i can give you technique of mine for stabilizing and probably increasing quality of dream:
- I'm looking at my hand intensifly while trying to see smallest details of it and while telling myself that it will make dream last longer and make it very realistic.
These tutorials might help you :cheeky: :
Official DreamViews:
Stabilization - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
Dream Control Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

If you struggle with one technique for a long time you might consider switching to another one.
You can aswell try to switch whole set of techniques (From DILDs to WILDs).
And if technique works make notes of every semi-successful and successful attempts.
The more detailed notes the better.
Technique at times might work but there can be something that you don't like about it and here's the solution: Experiment
Lucid Dreams are very personal subject.
So experimenting won't be bring much issues (It may worsen technique but it can slightly boost it up aswell).
If your own change in technique helped then it's great,
If it made stuff just worse then you might need to adjust it a little.

I've actually read a lot about dream stabilizing but I will check this out! Thanks :)

WBTB. Narrow your focus to just 1 or 2 dreamsigns. Choose a new goal that you can get excited about. Combine whatever you're doing now with MILD or SSILD if you don't already, and think about your dreamsign+goal during those sessions. Enjoy your non-LDs. When recalling dreams in your journal, focus more on picking out sensory details instead of retelling plot action.
With those things, I'm suggesting to focus on things to improve LD frequency instead of quality. And also to avoid burnout. When your frequency improves, you have more opportunities to work on quality with stabilization, control, etc.

There is certainly a struggle associated with lucid dreaming, but I like to think of it more as a challenge!
For example, my primary LD goal at the moment is to meet a certain person. At first, I would become lucid and quickly wake up. After more practice I was able to maintain my dreams for longer, but whenever I tried to find this person (eg. by walking into rooms with intent) they were simply never there. Last night I entered a room with intent and actual saw this person! Although I woke up before I could speak to them. The same goes with flying, at first I was terrible at it but now I can soar like a bird.
Keep up the journaling etc, keep excited and look at it like a challenge! Good luck.

Hey!
I see you have a strugle with lucid dreaming. You have to keep in mind that without concetration, maindfullnes and time you wont have a lucid dream. As the looks of it youre bigest mistake is that you are forsing it to happen. I sugest stop trying for at least a week and start again. Do not try any techniques in that time but still right down the interesting dreams.
Good luck! :)

Probably the best advice for long term, consistent dream practice.

You are not alone! I've also been into this for a bit more than a year now and it can be difficult at times to keep up the motivation if there's little pay-off. I find it helpful to think of how much better I'll have got in several months' time if I keep at it. On nights that I don't have lucids, I think I'm one night closer to having the next lucid, and on nights that I do have a lucid, I think it will be easier to have the next one. Also, follow sisyphus advice, it sounds very helpful. Just think that for some people it's easier than others, but that's okay, we'll make it too! :)
