there's plenty of methods and dosege written all around in here. you could just do a search... but as far as it being good or bad. you should really just try it. there's nothing about those two suplements that will hurt you in small doses for a short experimental period.

Exploring consciousness is an adventure, and its not without its risks. you could become terrifed by some of the things you might see in the dream world. Lucid or not. I guess my point is that anything you might encounter there no matter how you get there is going to benefit you in some way. everything we experience teaches us something. everything we learn makes us richer. If the only thing you find is that B6 and melitonin are not for you... well you'l never have to worry about them again. if instead you find yourself in a world of incredible beauty and some wise dream character tells you something that changes your life for the better, then it was... well you know what i mean.

from my personal point of view

I don't know anything about b6. But I do have a good deal of experience with melatonin. I started trying it to regulate my sleep schedule because I am naturally a bit of an insomniac. I find that I remember dreams best when my sleep schedule is way out of wack or way normal/regulated. Anyway, I have heard from others and have confirmed for myself that it is very difficult to become lucid using melatonin. This might not be true for you. But for me, I have great dream recall, really vivid dreams (high detail, brilliant colors) when I use melatonin. But I think I've only become lucid once out of about fifty times. Also, one thing for me personally - I sleep a pretty solid 8 hours when I use melatonin. And if I don't, I'm usually kinda groggy when I wake up. Hard to get going and such. Something akin to when I use NyQuil but not as bad. But when I sleep the full 8, I generally feel extremely rested. Try it out for yourself though. Everyone's brain chemistry is a little different. It won't hurt you. At least short term. Haven't heard anything about long term effects but I kinda doubt it would hurt even then. It's the natural chemical your brain releases when your body says it's time to go to bed. Doctors reccommend 3-6 micrograms. They generally come in 3 microgram pills at the store. It's not all that expensive either. So that's cool. I think it's less than ten bucks for a bottle of 100. If you sleep well normally and don't have any trouble falling asleep it might not really help though. Cuz your brain produces it anyway and if it's given a bit more, it doesn't really hurt or help. So I've heard/read. That's all I know. Hope it helped. Let us know what you think of it if you do try either. Have many wondrous dreams!
Just a friendly reminder to do a reality check. : ) Are you dreaming? How do you know?

Well, my research on the subject suggests that SOME people have adverse effects from melatonin, but nothing serious. If you get a headache - stop.
As for B6, prolonged overdose can cause nervous system problems
So dont overdo it too much.. 100 or 150 mg should be fine

As to whether they work: For some people more than others.
You have to understand what they do to decide for yourself...

Melatonin is responsible for sleeping patterns, and generally cleans up your sleep cycles. This causes better sleep, and better cycles, more dream periods, etc.
Whereas B6 increases seratonin levels.. which are also linked to Melatonin in a few ways. B6 doesn't clean up your sleep necessarily, but is meant to produce very vivid dreams.

Also note that none of these two drugs will CAUSE lucid dreams... not at all. They only HELP to create the mental environment for them.
The only way to induce lucid dreams is with yourself.
There is no super drug that automatically causes lucid dreams without any effort from yourself. (To my knowledge)

I use to buy zanax (xanax) pills, and they give me the same effect that melatonin does, but the melatonin is much less effect.. If i up the melatonin to bout 9mg, i think it will be just as strong.... What happens,i become very relaxed, all my muscles... My vision gets blurry, and then i just want to fall asleep, and i cant really remember the night before.. this melatonin is a legual alternative so, i suggest everyone go get some !!

I have been taking 10mg half fast acting half slow release that also have 10mg of B6
I only have lucid dreams on weekends but I test out various strengths during the week
It seems the ideal dose for me is 30 to 50 mg total, tho I have tried ridiculous amounts (I often take 1 - 2 more 10mg everytime I wake up one night many 130mg total)
also sometimes I take 100mg of 5HTP to sleep and then only start melatonin after I wake up 3.5-4.5 hrs later

When I take several Melatonin at once I begin to have visions, they are sometimes as clear as vivid dreams, but I am totally awake and they last from 1second to several seconds usually

The large does of Melatonin do disrupt my sleep, but I like to wake up and dream journal anyway
I have had about 1.5 lucid dreams per weekend since using this combo (2 this morning) 2 the week before last
half of them tho I forget to stabilize and the end quickly the other half are about 10 min in length, they are exceptionally vivid

I think I will try to switch to slow release only and find the right dose for that then add vitamin B6 back in
I think i'll start with about 30mg slow release see if I get the visions after 45 minutes or not
I use the visions to know the dose is good
too high a dose and it doesn't work

when I wake up from the proper dose I also see flashing patterns weird effects while my eyes are closed
(especially waking right from a dream or lucid dream)

before melatonin the frequency was 1 lucid dream per month, but still about 4 dreams per night

I have not had any real side effects,
but supposedly women can have serious menstrual problems so don't take high dose if you are female\
      definitely not if your pregnant
