Want to give up -- Carry on.

I have not had a Lucid Dream as of yet but as a beginner I feel like everyone has been at a low point at the starting point.. You don't know what you're doing is right, feeling confused and this can be quite a sad time. As a beginner I will share my views on this and hope that what I write can uplift you.

Why start something that you are going to quit? This is the real question here. Whether at the start you're aware of it or not, you should know that there is going to be obstacles, you will doubt yourself, and most importantly YOU must know that you will make mistakes, this also applies for other things not just lucid dreaming. Many people including myself look at these lucid dreaming techniques and methods and think it's going to be a walk in the park, it's not because it is much more than that, this includes being consistent and persistent in your practices. For example, you are climbing a very high wall, as you try it for the first time, you managed to get one foot on the wall then you slip. Why did you slip? You slipped because you've had no experience in climbing a wall but the more you try to climb the more you will get the grips of how it's done. This applies the same rule to lucid dreaming. Keep doing your practices and you will move your way up the wall bit by bit.

You don't know what your doing is right? I would say completely change what you're doing but that wouldn't be much help would it. Re-evaluate your practices, think about what might be wrong, don't you find your current practice fun? Change it or better yet make it into a game, be creative! If your practices are fun then your going to go a long way! That tip was from hukif and sensei! For myself, with my reality checks, I tend to do a lot each day and what I do is I play a small game... each time I forget to do a reality check I loose a point and if I remember to do one I give myself one, it's a good way of keeping track of my progress.

Great post! To add on, lucid dreaming is all about mindset. You're not going to have much success if you're getting angry about LDing or the lack of LDs. You want to remain laid back and just let the dream come as they may. If you feel like you're burnt out, or it's taking you longer than most to get lucid, don't be afraid to take a break from it all for a bit. Lucid dreaming is a great skill to have and the hard work can pay off incredibly, but none of that will come if your mind is clouded. Taking a little time off and just falling asleep for pure sleep can help get you back into a clear state of mind. Be it a day, a week, or a month, take some time to relax and then come back into it whenever you feel fit. The only rush is one you put into place yourself.

Nice positive post and i totally agree.i have given up quiet a few times with lucid dreaming but this time iv stuck to it as i have learned that not having alot of lucid dreams is not a negative for me because im still learning and figuring out the best way for me.....
I love practising lucid dreaming and im glad its something that takes time and effort because its interesting for me to learn new techniques and ways of living.
I think alot of people out there are missing out and lucid dreaming should be so much bigger than it is....iv been doing it for about 2 years now and have never met anyone in real life who practises lucid dreaming....someday in the future everyone will start talking about it and us on dreamviews will laugh as we will be masters lol

As they say, whenever you feel like quitting, remember why you started. Or also, if you think something is too hard, then you don't want it bad enough.

In my case, it happened to me, sometimes I've felt lost, unmotivated, angry... :( In all these cases I usually take a little break and then go back to resume my practice. :goodidea:

For me has been very important to come back here, to DV, to the forums to read the experiences of others, write back to my DJ and my WorkBook, and if possible participate in any competition or a challenge because they are very motivating. Participate in some conversations (though my English is not very good! :| ) also helps.

In the end, it is best to maintain a continuous practice and keep in mind that the path can be as interesting and fun as the final goal.

Great guys! One thing that I've always done from the start, I Expect to have a Lucid every single night, because the expectation builds up the excitment and if I don't have a Lucid I don't really care because NLDS are just as awesome and fun and should be just as important!

This is a great thread! Recently, I've been having a lot of bad luck when it comes to Lucid dreaming, but after reading this, I've regained my motivation. I will do it, whether it be today, tomorrow or the the day after!

I have a lucid dream every single dream! ... well, it didn't happened yet, but I'll begin tonight :cheeky:

The hardest point is waiting to have the first one, since you dont know how to do it and dont know what to expect. Motivation is easier after your first one as you know you can do it. But then you are frustrated as you dont know what made it happen. Know what? After 6 years I still dont know what I do to make it happen! It just does..
