      Increased awareness

I just noticed something I thought I'd share with you.
Naturally, I'm a pretty deep sleeper. I've been told I'm hard to wake.
Sometimes, though, if something happens, I'll sleep lighter than normal. For example, last night there was a huge storm and there were warnings all over the TV for our area. I was a little aprehensive about going to sleep, because I know that tornadoes are most deadly when they hit in the middle of the night because nobody's safely in their basement (or wherever). I kept the TV in my room on, and I think that because I was thinking about it, my subconscious told me to sleep lighter. That night, I had an amazing lucid dream. (the only one in months, actually). I was thinking that because I was more alert and a little more aware of my surroundings, I had a better grasp of reality in my dreams, resulting in a lucid.
Any thoughts? A better question, does this make any sense? If not, just let me know... just a thought I had!

Also (sorry, had to throw this in while I'm posting, too) In my first couple of LDs I tried spinning and it worked for me (to change location). In recent LDs, I can't get it to work anymore! When I do it, I feel the carpet under my feet and hear the voices of others in my room, and it just doesn't work. Why do you suppose it stopped?

      Thanks again,
      Theresa

Hey Theresa. The most likely time to have an LD is right before you wake up, when you're closest to consciousness. If you're sleeping lighter, then it only makes sense that your mind would be closer to consciousness and therefore your thinking would be clearer.

As for the spinning not working, do you just stay in the same place when you stop spinning? There are other techniques you could try, though, if you want to change locations. You could simply turn around and expect to be in a different location, though it would work best if you were in a 1st person point of view. You could walk through a door into another location, or merely walk around a corner. You just have to know that you will end up where you want to go. Where there's a will there's a way.
