      Falling Sensation

I have, on several occasions, felt a brief falling sensation as I drift off to sleep. This feeling is immediately followed by a sudden muscular jerk and total awareness.

This is an all too common experience, but the true nature and cause for this phenomenon is debatable. I would guess that the sense of falling is given to us by our brain's interpretation of a change in muscle tone. The whole process seems entirely involuntary to me, so I wonder what it is that triggers this to happen.

Felt it once. Only been lucid dreamign for about 2 months, but my best lucid dream began after I had felt this falling feeling

This happens often to me. I don't know why it happens to me so often. I can usually remember having some early form of dreaming. Nothing solid. More like me just walking and I trip or something similar and I jerk awake. It happened to my fiancee the other night. It was rather funny because she did it, sat up in bed, looked around, said, "What the hell?", and then fell back asleep.

Oh...and not to distract from the discussion, but you have the coolest avatar I have seen in a long time, Jrels. Please tell me you like it from what it is from and not just that it looks cool.

It always happens just as I am on the verge of falling totally asleep, too. I usually don't have any dream imagery assosciated with it though.

Yeah, it's from Bakshi's Wizards, I have the movie, and I do enjoy it.

I've had alternating falling and rising sensations right before falling into an OBE. I kept rising then falling, displacing further each change of direction. Then it stopped when I was under my floor, with my head about ceiling height on the first floor.

Also I've had the falling sensation while in a lucid dream too.

The guy next to me certainly felt one in my Public Finance class yesterday. He jerked awake from his slumber and went "uhh!" Across the room is sounded like he was going to ask a question, so everyone looked over at him and waited for a second.

Damn, I thought this stuff would've ended in high school. Although I guess I can't blame him. What we were learning on tax efficiency was taught to many of us four years ago in our very first intro course. For crying out loud!

Sorry. Yes. Falling sensation. Get it all the time. Though sometimes it feels like half of my body is falling and thus, more of a "collapsing" sensation than a falling one. Both suck rocks.

I have. I can remember drifting off to sleep some years ago, and I was having what I guess must have been hypnagogic imagery. I imagined myself on a skateboard going down a steep street, even though I could feel the bed below me and knew I wasn't quite asleep yet. Now, I have only skateboarded maybe twice in my life, so of course I fell off the skateboard. This produced a very distinct falling sensation which jerked me back into full awakeness.

Not fade like all my dreams” —Rush

      get this all the time
but it's not a free fall sensation
      more of a rolling sensation
feels like I'm going to fall out of bed
which really does jerk me awake
but I'm always lying on my back

Mostly i get a falling sensation, but one time i became aware of a 'rocking' and then a feeling like i was floating.
      Unfortunately, i woke up...
i wonder if i could have gone OBE then.

      That is a shame!
That has happened to me nearly all the time. Usually, I am still somewhat awake when this happens, though it happens either while I am starring off into space, or in the trans state of WILD. Usually, I can wake up quickly, but I am usually still in SP if that happens.
A few times that has happened, I have leapt out of bed...& I would either go back to my bed, since I want to LD (maybe I have an LD task to complete!), or I would go have a little fun (maybe going to a movie w/Cody(how about next time I do that, I go see HP w/him!), who probably did the same thing.....! ). Maybe I can see splash like that sometime (as seen from my sig!)
