      Pain in dreams

I'm just curious - does anybody feel pain in dreams? I was thinking about this while lying in bed last night. I've had multiple dreams of getting teeth knocked out, being in car accidents, whatever, but I don't remember any pain ever being associated with them.

I have felt pain and discomfort. Just last night I was eating something in my dream and all of the sudden it felt like I was chewing on paper, yuck! I used to do venipuncture for a living (I worked in a dialysis unit and put needles in people all day long). After one 'bad stick' on someone I dreamed I had been infiltrated with a needle (when you miss the vein) and it hurt through my bones in the dream! I'm sure it was the guilt I felt for causing pain to someone else.

I'll just add that I definitely feel pain in my dreams. Sometimes I'll get shot and the pain will be so intense that I wake up, and that part of my body still acutely hurts like an actual wound. And it's not like a muscle cramp that I incorporated into my dream, either. It's very strange. Then the pain slowly subsides.

In a dream I had recently, I was stabbed in the heart. It hurt in the dream and when I woke up, my heart hurt. It wasent a feeling like I just got stabbed, but it was uncomfortable.

The brain is definitely capable of creating pain; just think of OBE's - your brain is creating 'false' sensations. Research has shown that pain is suggestive - if anyone has seen the psychologist Derren Brown's program they have seen he can stop people from feeling pain altogether by just persuading their subconscious that they are immune to pain in a matter of seconds. He can even stop bleeding via subliminal persuasion.

Wow - that would be quite amzing. Considering it's not ust a matter of thinking about stopping the bleeding, but mentally sending increased numbers of thrombocytes (platelets) to the wound to clot the blood. It would be hard to believe without seeing it happen with your own eyes.

If you don't believe me go to either of these websites:
      http://www.channel4.com/entertainmen...M/mindcontrol/
      www.derrenbrown.co.uk

You can probably find information about it. He took two medical students, talked to them for a minute or so, then stuck a needle through one guys hand. He couldnt feel anything, and when the needle withdrew (it went right through the hand) There was no blood at all. When feeling returned to his hand he wasn't in any pain. It's on his dvd if you're that interested.

Ya know, now that you mention it, I think I have heard something about someone sticking a needle through their hand and not feeling any pain and not bleeding at all. I thought they were hypnotized at the time, but I can't remember exactly...

Derren Brown is more of an illusionist then a psychologist. There's a lot of trickery involved. I'd not use him as a reliable source that something is possible.

There have been lots of discussions about his reliability. Trickery does play a part; but not as much as people think. He is very genuine. Although maybe I'm biased; he might have brainwashed me through his programs... No, that's nonesense.

      P.S. All hail Derren!
