getting closer but still dont know

So last nite i had a crazy dream....i was in a downtown maybe New York i dont know just walking around in the street, then i called up my buddy and told him that i had surgery or something and i didnt pass out from the medicine, then i started floating up and flying around..this is where it gets wierd, i looked at hte ground and told myself to stop flying and go to the ground because i was looking for a bank so i flew straight towards the ground and right before i hit it everything changed and i was just standing on the ground then i saw the bank and i flew there like superman so my question is was this a lucid or dream control or a normal dream, i remember telling myself i want to go to the ground and i went to the ground, thats whats confusing me

Sound like first of all you have great dream recall . Second, the second you said I'm dreaming I want to land on the ground you began Lucid. The minute you landed you started to control your dream. You have done great.

      only you can define "lucid".

if i had that dream, i wouldn't label it lucid. only if i explicity think "i am dreaming right now. my body is safe in bed, and everything around me right now is a dream created by my mind" do i label it lucid.

one can have a dream where they want to fly to the moon and have wild sex with blue hippos, and it happens, but that doesn't mean they real-ized they were dreaming.
i'm not trying to degrade your experience or anything .

i just find that lucidity is a tricky thing. unless i stop everything and real-ize completely that i am dreaming, and everything around me is created by my mind, any lucidity i might have quickly fades.

keep at it though. it sounds like your dreaming mind is starting to get closer and closer. good luck

      .

which is why i think you are very very close to becoming lucid. you are starting to think in your dreams, and make decisions.

let me put it this way, the moment the you think 'i am dreaming' while in a dream, you can be positive it is a lucid dream.

again, i'm not trying to piss on your dream, i think its an awesome sign that your dreaming mind is on the verge of lucidity one of these nights 8) i'm just saying that personally, i wouldn't label it lucid quite yet. and many here wouldn't see it as lucid either.

i'm not saying this to be negative, or make you think you can't become lucid. i'm just trying to say that i remember when i started to remember THINKING distinctly in dreams, and wondered if they were lucid. but the moment i actually thought "I"M DREAMING RIGHT NOW!" in a dream, i knew exactly what lucidity feels like.

you can think in a dream without being lucid (though these dreams are usually clearer and more realistic than the dreams where stuff just happens to you). but you cannot think 'i am dreaming' and not be lucid.

i'm pretty sure you'll know what i'm trying to say (albeit pretty poorly ) when you have your first full-blown lucid. believe me, there won't be any doubt whether you were lucid or not.

tonight could very well be the night good luck friend...
