I know the it may be considered a universal consciousness or perhaps a Collective Consciousness. But that may only mean they can work in concert with one another. But realistically on a physical plane they often do not. [/color]
Who is your Avatar? Which corner of the Rennaissance are you raiding?
yes, consciousness does seem to isolated to individuals. But there are available experiences. One can read in "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda, an interesting little book of Eastern Propaganda, that he once experienced a Spread and Flow of Consciousness which ranged out far from his body, incorporating first the surrounding City Blocks, and eventually stretching out Universally.
Then I once personally made a friend during one of my Indian Sojourns. he fell into a brief meditation, and then stirred and got up and said "come on". We walked about a half a mile, a kilometer, and he reached behind a partition near a wall, and got a bucket, he walked behind a spread of trees and found a well that could not be seen from the road, and then we walked up a path and found an Ox that had been tethered to a pole, and his own bucket of water had been knocked over. It seems that my friend had had such a similar Spread of Consciousness, and what had come to his Compassionate Attention was the suffering of this Animal. While still in this Spread of Consciousness he had located an available bucket that could be found on the way to an available well of water. Now, yes, the man might have set me up for this Story. But then, later, when we were to taxi back to Bangalore, he was arguing with the Taxi Driver over the silliest small amount of rupees and so I gave the Cabby a flash of my eyebrow indicating that I would take care of the difference and just agree with my friend and let it go. The traveling plans being set, we went off for Tea. 20 minutes later my friend seemed to drift off into a bit of a trance, and then popped out of it and said "You conspired with Abdul, didn't you?" Well, Abdul was the Cab Driver. Oh, and another time, out in front of the Gurus Palace, this one old Sadhu just went into a violent frenzy. All of the usual Crowd Control People were too terrified to take charge of the situation, and so my friend just walked forward raising his hands up to his chest, and the Wild Sadhu became still, and then my friend whispered something into the Wild Man's ear, and the guy just sat down like nothing happened, as peaceful as the proverbial limpid pond. My friend came back and I asked him, "What did you say to that guy?" You know what he said? "I told the man, 'Don't worry. I'm taking care of it'."
So, you and me can speak of limited consciousness. But my Friend, and Yoganananda, have found a way of beating the ordinary human bounds.
