      Anyone try REM deprivation?

Was just reading an article someone posted that said:

Experiments have shown that if sleepers are awakened as soon as REM starts, they enter REM sleep more rapidly the next time, and their REM is more intense. If the deprivation continues, they go into REM as soon as they fall asleep. It becomes impossible to deprive people of REM sleep without keeping them awake all the time. REM-deprived people can go into REM quickly in shorter naps.[/b]
Sounds like the recipe for a great WILD!

It's true that if someone is deprived of REM-sleep for a while, they'll start skipping the other stages sleep. This is how polyphasic sleep works.

However, I'd say that WILDing while having been deprived of REM-sleep would have the same effect as a WBTB, in which case you also enter REM-sleep as soon as you go to sleep (as I understand it). So why deprive yourself of sleep for days just to do that? O.Oa

I have been involved in self sleep deprivation. I have concluded for myself that it creates sensational hypnagogic imagary.
But because your mind is too busy making up the sleep that it needs and requires, that it makes becoming aware almost impossible.

Well I suppose you would do it because it would be easier to WILD in theory since you'd more easily enter REM and it would be more vivid.

This is the same effect as going to bed slightly drunk though i suppose, later in your sleep you have more REM and more intense dreams...

Yeah, it's called REM rebound. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to screw with yourself like that, though. I would try to mess up your circadian rhythms the least amount possible; knowing how you sleep will help with LDs in the long run.

Doesn't a WBTB get you into REM-sleep (pretty much) right away either though? if it does, that would be just as good right?
