      Early REM dreamers?

The last two nights in a row I have become lucid multiple times during the first REM stages of the night. For me that's about 20 minutes after going to sleep. However I just can't seem to hold on to it, as soon as I realize I am lucid the dream just fades away, it's like i'm trying to hold on to something made of smoke.

Now I have yet to have a prolonged LD at any REM stage. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experience so early in the night.

Yes if I induce that dream myself while still conscious and not falling asleep.
I wake up directly into a LD quite soon after I fall asleep.

But when I dream normally it's usually late when the dream comes.

What do you mean when you say 'induce that dream myself' , I find that interesting. Because when I do have an early LD I am really trying to have one. I psych myself up and try to incubate one. Are you able to have a normal LD early in REM or are they all short?

I've had a few LDs shortly after going to sleep in the evening. They happened spontaneously, don't know why. I usually just go to bed and don't expect to have them before morning. So, they just happened. They were very short, maybe more of a HI, except one I had recently - it sure was a real LD, within half an hour I fell asleep.

Huh??? My MSG is not posted..? grrr...

      starting all over.
when I'm in bed I prepare a scene/scenario/world when I want to appear in a lucid dream. after that I put "myself" into that place and I fall asleep. I wake up into my dream and I find myself at that place I created before falling asleep. Then I can do what I want. This awakening usually takes place like half an hour after I fall asleep (but it can be just subjective time...)

When I wake up in normal dreams it happens usually late in my sleep.

The LDs induced this way aren't short.

This is all very interesting. Since I believe scientifically the earlier the REM stage the shorter. I have also had experiences that border somewhere between HI and LD. For example, the other night I was in bed and there was a girl in bed with me and she was laying with her legs spread towards my face and I remember parting her legs and it was like there really was someone there, unfortunately i woke up after that But it was somewhere in between.

I think unless your sleep rythms are way messed up you're not going to have long dreams early in the night....

Maybe you should also note one thing...concerning me at least. Actually when I have dreams early in the night it is always at "realtime" but it lasts for "quite a long time". Or at least as it seems.

But when I dream early in the morning my dreams can take days, months even years. (I don't like to speak about this much..as many people always tell me that it's impossible...)

It's true that my dreams early in the night are short compared to the dreams later.

Try to stay calm and wait a bit. If you try too early it's no wonder if it fade away. I once was in about the same stage. At first I started looking around, causing the dream to start fading. But I became calm and did only look in one direction in the dream, to prevent the dream from fading. After a while I had a lucid dream.

I guess that's your problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.
