Well, jeen, dreamers often have this misconception that lucidity = control. That's simply not the case. Control seems to be something that becomes easier to do with the level of conficence while in the dream.
When you become lucid, instead of going right to the NY skyline, start out simply hovering above the ground in which you stand. Once you feel comfortable with that, then you can try actually flying away somewhere. When you manage to get confident enough with this ability to fly, THEN you go out and use this 'control' to fly off to where ever it is you want to go. When in flight, try telling yourself that over the next ridge or mountain lies the cityscape you want to fly through. Just know it will be there - because it is, after all, YOUR mind creating the scenery.
It's good that you can imagine what something would be like in your waking time, this could incubate the experience and eventually incorporate it into a lucid dream.
