      Music in/after dreams

Does anybody else remember music: songs, rhythms, etc either in their dreams or when they wake up?

I sometimes wake up with songs in my head and also remember them in my dream, too (and they weren't the same songs I was listening to yesterday). They can be completely random and not my type of music, either.. like commercial jingles and background music from TV. Either that or they're my favourite pieces or pieces that I hadn't remembered the tune or name of.. i remember going to a concert two summers ago and listening to an amazing piece of classical music but I never remember the name of it until a few months ago, right after I woke up I thought of it.

This might be the mind doing the whole poroblem-solving-in-sleep-thing, but the random stuff I can't think of as important to me.

Example: last night I woke up and thought of this song from a commercial, kinda rock/pop.. i remember the first line "right here right now, this is the place where I wanna be."

And I'm positive I don't want any products from whatever comercial that came from. I think it's like a hardware commercial or something, not my type.

Any thoughts, guys? The songs normally don't help me remember anything but it's kinda neat

LOL - omg, happens to me a LOT! What sucks is that a lot of times it's a song that I can't stand or just never really liked.

It's likely that somewhere in your dreams you were hearing this song and it just carried over into your waking state. It might also be that it popped up during the hypnogogic stages (collage of random thoughts) and since it was something recognizable and had a rhythm, your mind just latched onto it and didn't let go.

What's really cool is when you end up waking up to a song that's your own. Something you make up - a little riff, sometimes lyrics. Last night I had a dream Where i was playing some drums (bongos and such). I'm not a drummer, but it was so much fun. I woke up with this sort of African rhytms solo going through my head.

Other times you might experience composing the most wonderful piece of music in your sleep only to wake up and not remember a single note. ARGH! I hate when that happens.

I remember one dream where this well known Dutch song called "most dreams are deceptions(translated to English)" was playing in the background for a while. The title is a line that frequently comes back in the song too.

When I woke up from the dream I wrote that detail down on a blocnote, but it wasn't until I was typing it out on my pc that I realized the actual meaning of the song, and how badly my subconcious tricked me.
      A dream
is a reality that others cannot see.
      Reality
is a dream you share with others.

      yaeh

one time i left my radio on while asleep.
In my last REM period, i could hear the song playing.
When i woke up, during the song, i realized that the song in the dream,
      was coming from the radio.
      pretty crazy huh?

I think what's crazier is when you start playing instruments that can not exist in this world,

and then other dream characters appear and start playing with you.

pianos, sitars, and weird instruments I have yet to explain.

That's happened to me, and I think it's pretty neat, too. Except when it gets pretty frightening, like this one tune that ruined my slumber. Though I've never experienced them after hearing a radio. Maybe it's connected to memories of the waking state and it transfers to our dreams.

yeah this one time I woke up and jotted down a 6-note guitar tab i'd dreamed up. in the dream I 'knew' it was the song This Train by Sublime but once written down and played it was something totally different and original. Wierd how your mind can make something out of nothing.
Other times I wake up and in my dazed half-awake state i just can't get melodies out of my head, like made-up short lines that only later do i realize don't even sound good
