What's Your Reality Check?

*** If this is a repeat topic sorry*** I just wanted to know what everyone does for reality checks. I try to do them during the day but I have not found a technique that works very well. I have been thinking about buying a bracelet that says "Am I Dreaming?" and do a check every time I look at it! Just an idea. My question is when you remember to do a check what exactly do you do to test reality? Thanks!!!!

I try to push my finger through the palm of my hand, or a mirror, or a tv or computer screen. I have a hard time with others, sometimes printed stuff isn't fuzzy, or if I can't turn on a light I just think the bulb busted. That last one always gets me...

I will usually perform a reality check everytime I enter another room, or when I go outside and look up at the sky, or when I am driving. (A brilliantly blue, cloudless sky is one of my dreamsigns, so is driving) First, I will try to levitate, but not try too hard. (people look at you strange when you jump for no reason ) Next, I will look for something to read and see if the letters change. I will then sometimes try to poke my finger through my hand. If all reality checks fail, I will look around and ask myself what would be different if I were dreaming.

Yeah sorry I forgot to mention that. Like I said the one that works best for me is the finger through the palm... and sometimes even that doesn't work. Anyways good luck in finding your ideal RC.

I'm trying to be generally aware of my surroundings and sometimes it gives me a spontaneous LD. When I perform a RC, I do 5 things - look at any 3 words and want them change into random word, opposite, similar. Then I push finger through my palm and try some superability... I do it cause single RC often fails...

I musta read the title wrong 'cause I thought the thread's title read: "Really Big Check" and silly me, I thought Laura got a raise and was sending us all proceeds. What I have started doing since coming to this forum is look at my watch or a clock every hour or 2 while Im awake and watch it for a minute, for my reality check. Abstract Dreamer

Thanks!!!! * what's the point in buying a bracelet with that on it when you can just write it on your hand. seriously, when it comes to lucid dreaming you really don't need to BUY anything, except for maybe that book by LaBerge, that's a good thing to have around. other than that, it's pretty unecessary... as for reality tests, I wouldn't trust half of them. anything physical like jumping or trying to push your finger through your palm is subject to failure. I'd pick up a book or look at my watch. (everyone probably knows how those tests go, if not, feel free to ask me) things are unstable in the dreamworld, as explained in LaBerges book. but I dunno, even those tests may fail...it's a fine line between the dream world and reality, I'm sure many would agree.

Just my opinion: There are 2 types of dreams. 1) Dreams which you just watch and have no awareness. 2)Dreams where you have full awareness, but you are tricked into believing it's reality. In first type of dream your chances of becoming lucid are very slim, and it's always low lucidity. Second type of dream is different - your awareness is just there, but you think you are awake. Such dreams are usually very vivid and easy to recall, because your memory works better. Sometimes in such dreams you question inviroment, and your mind tricks you. But there are some things your mind is uncapable of lying about. That's when Reality Check comes handy. If you test your state in more then one way, you are very likely to become lucid...

Mine is too look at my watch, avert my sight, think of a different time and look again. I just realized, I though when you guys said put your fingers through your palm, you meant your palm pilot!!!!! I just realized this, and I have heard about this for several months... I am such an ass....

I try to look at my watch, which DID work for my first lucid dream, but in real life the battery started acting up and so I couldn't do serious reality checks. The finger through the palm thing sounds good, i'll probably start doing that. I need to start doing reality checks regularly, methinks. I just always seem to forget after i've been awake for like an hour. I should probably just get a marker and put a huge dot on my palm, and when people ask about it, or when I notice it, i can shove my finger at it, and then they can laugh at me. Or I can become lucid because i'm dreaming and kill them all... whatever.

Okay, as of right now I have a huge purple dot on my hand. Unfortunately, I had an orange one earlier, and i quickly found out it was washable marker and soon everything I touched was orange. So, I'm now set with my purple dot and am ready to reality test to the x-treme

I sometimes use RCs though not often. Usually I just am dreaming along then WHAM awareness hits me. So I guess I don't have a set RC or anything. Does it really help that much?

Purple Dot isn't working so well... again, I forgot once the day started, and I guess my palm isn't as visible as I once thought. So, the dot has migrated to the back of my hand. Hopefully I will notice it better there, especially since I spend a lot of my day on the computer. I'll keep you all updated on Purple Dot.
