Congratulations. As you can see in the replies to this thread, not many people posess the willpower to accomplish what you have done. It is admirable to set your mind to something and stick with it. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of dedication. People seem to question if it was worth it or not, but really what did you lose? And at the very least, you gained a sense of accomplishment... and an LD to boot.

Well, all the guy did was fast for a while (and not talk) to achieve a goal. There is no health risk to not talking, so lets just talk about fasting. It's something that people do for a variety of reasons. They do it for spiritual reasons, and there is considerable talk of there being health benefits to it. The point is, people do it. Does the reason behind it matter? Whose business is it but the individual doing it to declare that they are undermining their real world obligations? There are probably at least a dozen religions on this planet that include fasting as a ritual. Would you say the same thing to those people?Quote:

If you call it "forcing starvation", it sounds bad. If you call it "fasting", it is a practice that is performed by many people all across the world. What's the big deal?
Fasting, which is a form of self punishment used to bring the best out of someone, is a horrible way to try and have Lds, especially when you are doing it for multiple days. Americans include eating as a big part of their lives, while in other parts of the world people fast annually or monthly, depening on religion or society. from my experiances with Ld, i know that forcing yourself to a strict schedule of no eating AND no talking isn't worth having a LD, unless you dont care much about ither, in which case as the auther said, it wont work. its a bad idea.Quote:

I wouldn't advocate to anyone that they fast to have lucid dreams. I wouldn't fast myself for that reason. But I'm not going to criticize someone for doing it. Why? I like to have a keen understanding when not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong. Fasting is something people do... people from a variety of religions and nationalities, including Christians and Americans... for a variety of reasons. And it's their own damn business.
This is great! I have to try this. I can go a few days without eating, although talking will be hard. I may have to avoid my freinds and just say 1 or 2 words if I have to. This really seems like it can work. I dont think there was a way I could keep LDing in mind all day I'll give up tv and internet and anything else for as long as I can to make this happen.

I say rock on, man. Fasting has always been an excellent way for me to either show determination or just remove clutter from my brain. I don't think this is "letting LDing take over your waking life" at all. I've fasted many times in my past, and twice I did it to show fortitude (not for others, mind you, but for myself).
Some of the characters in The Stand by Stephen King were questioning a sort of religious fast put upon them toward the end of the book, and one of the heroes described why he thought it mattered. He compared a person's lifestyle to a car (with the battery being a person's soul/essence/being). Most people's lives are saturated with internet access, cell phones, constant personal interaction, fast food, things to do and places to go, etc. This is as if the car is driving down the road with the A/C on, radio blasting, GPS running, power brakes/windows/steering pumping, and the defroster on. While the car can run a long time with all these little perks, the battery is never quite full. So, the character says, every once in a while we need to turn off the A/C, the radio, and all the other trappings of a hectic life to let our batteries recharge. With a charged battery, a human being is capable of some pretty amazing things. (e.g. forcing the mind to LD, among others)
Plus, keep in mind that the human body is incredibly durable and can even benefit from short term nutritional deprivation (read: 1-2 weeks) Technically, the human body can survive weeks without food if it gets water. He's drinking juice, So there is absolutely no health concern unless he starts training for the olympics.
Oh come on, it's not that much of a problem. It's not like he's going to be not eating for very long; he'll more than likely recover compeletely once he starts eating again. Furthermore, he isn't starving himself per se - he's drinking fruit juice, which contains some sugars and nutrients. He'll be fine.
Ok FINE NOT FATAL NOT TERRIBLE ISN't going to make you consideraby ill as long as it is not for too long. I was Just pointing out that it is not a decision to be taken lightheartedly

well im not one to argue but i agree with soulsearcher. He did somthing to achieve a goal, and was committed enough to stick to it and in the end he was rewarded. Now i dont think he would do somthing stupid as to do it again and again and again cause yes that would be very unhealthy, but we should congratulate him on his LD instead of saying he got it wrong or right cause in the end its his desision and it worked for him so congrats on ur first ld!

How do you know dreaming is only a virtual world? And also how would you explane the word virtual. Dreaming is some sort of energy after all, so my opinion is that dreaming is very real. It's the same idea behind learning your Dog to do a trick: By rewarding him when he succeeds and punishing him when he fails. Eventually they'll learn to do the trick because they know they'll be rewarded and otherwise punished.

I guess this is also THE way of ''Conditioning'' your Subconcious Mind to allow Lucidity to happen: Something which it usually always prevents and makes very difficult too maintain.
However a Lucid Dream is something I don't think is Worth Depriving yourself of a good triple portion of healthy food a day.
Good food and Neutrition is at least as important as good sleep.
In fact barely Eating to dream lucidly may actually negatively affect your sleep and dreams, making you sleep waaaay to deep for lucidity.
I guess if you're a smoker who smokes about 1 pack a day it would be a good thing to say: ''I won't be smoking a single Cigarette untill I succesfully had a Lucid Dream''.
It would be the same motivation: Nicotine is a very strong addiction.
And besides: This way of Conditioning your Subconcious Mind to Lucid Dream is free from starvation-effects and feelings and is actually a healthy technique too :)
I smoke too much, I'm gunna try this soon and be very strict on myself. No Lucid Dream: No smoking, No weed or Hash either! :o . That should motivate me :P Especially when my bag of weed and bag of hash just lay in my room in my lign of sight all the time :P
Hmm I'm also going to try doing a Quality Reality Check everytime I feel the Urge to smoke a Cigarette or a Joint.
I'm starting my own topic about this. :)
