As often as you want. You don't have to do them at all, you can do them every 2 minutes, it's really up to you. It's not the case that if you do a certain amount of reality checks per day, you will be guaranteed a lucid dream. I think the quality of them, as with most things, is more important, not the quantity although that helps too. Many people will do reality checks when they experience something related to their dreams, so the amount they do will vary everyday. Say if you dream regularly of cats, you do a reality check everytime you see a cat, and hopefully it'll cross over into your dreams.

Yeah, and believe me when i say doing them will pay off... I had a RC induced lucid dream... it was nice because i wasnt expecting it... i just did an RC in the dream and vioula! DREAMING! haha i loved it. YES quality > quantity... I always actually ASK myself if im dreaming... believe your dreaming untill you can prove other wise... poke your arm, plug your nose and try to breath in. then, observer the world around you... actually do an assesment of your environment and see if your dreaming. once every half hour or so of these and you should be DILDing in no time!

lol are you trying to like shove your arm through your hand or something consipuous? you could just plug your nose and try to breathe in if you dont want the funny looks. its good to hear though that you're doing RCs.

I'm not sure if you mean physically move your body? If you do RCs while you're awake eventually you'll do them while you're dreaming (but not actually physically), thats how you realise you're dreaming and become lucid. If you mean can you consciously do the RC while you're dreaming then not really, until you're lucid. If you could you'd already be lucid. You will still do the RC out of habit but you generally won't be aware that you're doing it or that you're dreaming, until after it works.

I just recently started doing reality checks while I go around the day. I've been checking my watch, then checking again a few seconds later just at random times durring the day. Also when I see something I don't see every day. Like a broken sprinkler spraying water directly on a trailer full of wood and pipes yesterday on the way home. I felt that sight could easliy have been part of a dream.

I've also been discretely pressing a fingernail into my skin to feel the little bit of pain. That is something that is easy to do and hard to notice someone doing. A little like pinching myself, but not actually pinching.

I haven't had any results from doing reality checks yet, but this is only my second day of doing it. I know things like this don't happen overnight. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents about this. I don't think reality checks need to be big things. Would just pressing a fingernail into the skin until it hurts count as a good reality check like I think it does?

I'm not sure about that one as you can feel pain in dreams too so it might not be that effective. You could try to see if your finger went through your skin, if it does you must be dreaming. Have a look at the Reality Checks Tutorial for more ideas.

Either that ot you just actually poked a hole in yourself.

I wasn't sure if the nail pain would be a good one or not. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look over that tutor to see what it says.

If I ever do actually in real awakening life put my finger through my hand, I'll have my husband tell you because I don't think I'll be able to type for a while.

It's different for everyone, but for me at least, I never become lucid from RCs. I've had 20-30 lucids since joining and I think only one of them was RC induced (and that was sort of during a WILD, I went to plug my nose while I was still like half in my bed and half in the dream, and I could feel my real arm stay still and my dream arm move it was pretty crazy).

I think the biggest thing about a RC is just to make you question reality and try to figure out if you're dreaming or not. I personally never remember to do RCs in dreams, but I feel like doing them while awake just helps me become more aware and be more likely to realize I'm dreaming while asleep.

However, I know a lot of people do have RC induced lucids, so you really just have to figure out what works for you.

I do an RC whenever anything strange happens, such as flipping a light-switch when the bulb is out or attempting to use something with dead batteries. I also do them randomly sometimes throughout the day.
