so i was telling my friend about lucid dreaming, and he was all excited about it. He asked me a bunch of questions, most of which i could answer, but there was one that i couldn't

      the question was
can you affect yourself in real life, using lucid dreaming as a "control panel"? such as giving yourself better penmanship, or (eek) putting yourself into a coma?

if any of you could answer this, i'd like to tell him what you all say

you could. you doing something in ur dream is affecting ur brain in some way. like exercising (sp?) in a dream wont make u more fit in life, but it could motivate you to exersize at home or go to the gym and work out. .. and just take it from there. if you study in an LD, you could study more for a test, or exam.. if you write perfectly in your dream, it would tell your mind to write neater, and naturaly, you will. it may take some time, but it should work..

You can't put yourself into a coma from a LD though. So don't worry about accidentaly doing that.

I've heard people say you can practice activities in dreams and the skill you gain is carried on into your waking life.

This is a really exciting but I'm skeptical.

Can anyone offer some experiences of their own where they've concretely studied or practiced something in a dream - like making a free throw, studying for a test, memorized language cards, etc - and felt that the skill / knowledge carried over into their waking life?

On a somewhat related note, when I was in middle school, I recorded my study guide into a cassette recorder, and listened to it over and over while I slept in place of actually studying. Needless to say, I failed the test.
