So today I was at work and a woman pushes this guy into the store.
The guy looked like he was about 19, was totally lame (he could look around and stuff though), and apparently his brain was actually intact (his caretaker was talking to him like he was "normal" {ie. not like he was mentally retarded})

Anyway so I was thinking, How much would that guys outlook on life change if he could suddenly do anything?

      The idea:

Its pretty simple actually. Rent up a local auditorium, go to a hospital or something, pass out pamphlets that introduce them to lucid dreaming, and start teaching people how to dream.
can you imagine how rewarding that job would be? (Not to mention how many lives would change)

      Thoughts on the idea?

I think it sounds like a great idea, although I do think that mental retardations would effect the limit to which a person can imagine and therefore dream.

That doesn't mean that it would be 100% effective in inspiring them, changing their outlook on life, and just making their day that much better. I'm if you could get enough people together and organized it that it is a definant possiblity.

Well I actually meant handicapped as in just crippled (mind fully intact)

I think mentally retarded people are usually pretty happy with life anyway (They wouldn't really understand what the heck you were talking about)

      one problem I could foresee:
What if one of them gave up after a month or so of try and fail? They might start to think that there is just one more thing wrong with themselves. Thus making them possibly depressed.

      Just my thought

I think it's a wonderful idea, but then again some people are fully comfortable with their handicap and reminding them of the possibility of being able to walk again (or for the first time) might make them depressed. But I think it might be worth a try, though you should probably talk to the hospital staff first so they can give you some more insight.

Are you having a holy moment?

Truly is a wonderful idea. Its fantastic to see that in our downright destroyed life on this planet, somebody makes something truly better. Generosity makes life worth living, you just saved a couple of lives.

      Exclamation

Just for the record, I am one of the many physically disabled people in this world with a spinal cord injury that I sustained oh about 13 years ago. And I've been practicing lucid dreaming for a little over two years now and even though I've only had a few lucids in that time, they were very much so vivid and real (at least to me) and was awesome to be able to experience some time outside my physically impaired body cuz I'm always able bodied in my dreams and in fact that is what usually sparks my lucidity because when I see that I'm fully functioning, that is a great dream sign and a good "Q" for me to do a reality test. And that's when I usualy take a few steps and sore into the sky like superman. i love to fly. but more then that, it feels so awesome to not have any physical limitations at all. And when I do finally wake up, I'm left feeling fully energized and excited to get on with my day because to me, that just became a real memory in my head thats no different then any other past memory I have had. Truely and totally awesome!!!

Not entirely unrelated... I tried getting a friend in prison interested in LDing last year. Sadly, it didn't go over very well.

Quadpro1 - thank you for your inside perspective.

It really depends on the individual, doesn't it?

If you think about it, most of us are sort of "disabled" in comparison to our abilities in LDs. We know our physical limitations though and don't seem to begrudge them. (i.e. I can't fly IRL, obviously.)

I think lucid dreaming is a great idea for ANYONE. Disabled people, or people in prison or people maybe would enjoy it more of course.

I don't think the fear of failure should keep anyone from trying.
The problem is when you re not trying and not when you re not succeeding.

Man !! This was actually my first idea when I started lucid dreaming ! I've been thinking about it for a bit and it would definitely be a great thing....
I don't think phisically disabled people would be sadened by it in no way....but that is just my opinion.
But then it reminds me that people in general are at first not interested in lucid dreaming, unless they discover it by themselves...any other ideas?

      LD count:15
DILD: 8 + (1 lucid without control and 3 with lousy recall)
      FILD: 1
      DEILD: 1
      Incubated lucid dreams: 1

Well....what would be the point of making a massive campaign for prisonners, telling them : "yeah, now you can do whatever you want, so life in prison is less boring", even though they would be lucid part of the time?
I mean, going to jail isn't holidays...it's not supposed to be a positive lifetime change...
Whereas handicapped deserve to have more body abilities, if they want to.

I was kind of thinking that they could like, kill people or whatever there . Maybe, just saying maybe, that would prevent them from doing it in RL. And this should be taught maybe after 90 % of the jail time..

this is a great idea, just think what handicapped people or people with mental problems could experience, its like giving someone in a wheelchair a chance to walk again, its a great idea and i'm sure if people were commited enough they would be greatful
