Well, it's very desirable to have full dream recall.
Because it has a very positive effect on your dream clarity and awareness.

You may not remember the very beginning of a dream, but it's ok.

Well I would say mostly the most stand out important details of that particular dream. These are the sequences that are going to stick out in your mind anyway so why not hold on to them. As you progress then you can remember more smaller details until you get the entire script down to a science. But try not to focuse on multiple things or your mind will get cloudy and you may loose all the information.

This is an issue I'm having trouble with too....I have too much too write, IMO.

I go for keywords, at least. Writing a single keyword down may (and usually) flood other pieces of info, so in that sense, the important scenes are the ones that matter. Like doing an outline, you can list all the major parts first -- in case you're going to drift off to sleep again or you're busy later -- and then "fill in the blanks" (write details) at a later time.

So, a little recall does a lot already, it's just that more is better to the every last bit. Consider it progressive, my friend.

If you can remeber something from each dream you have, that is better than a lot about 1 dream and then you forget everything about the others. Normally I remeber 2 or 3 dreams a night and I have a lucid dream like once every week or two. Last few days though I remebered 4 or 5 dreams a night, and I had 4 lucid dreams in the last 3 days(two today and two, 2 days ago). Though all the lucid dreams where really short compared to normal ones, there was still more than normal.

Look at the TUTORIAL section, and you will find LUCID DREAMING FAQ.
I have included dream recall in there.
