it came to my mind when I was replying to "freeze in time ability" somewhere here on the forums.

[...]... you know...after waking up from a dream were I spent a long time I do remember most of what happened. I remember what was interesting, emotional etc. etc. I remember how I was waking up in the dream and how I was going to sleep, I remember how everything felt. but I forget most what happened after time. but I still do remember those significant times in that dream (minimum of that dream).

still I'm at awe how my memory works. I mean ...I do remember really a lot of things and hell of dreams I dreamed. sometimes I mistake them for real memories. how come that I can remember so much? (usually comes after someone asks a question which makes me remember...but you know it's there)

people are already at awe that I can remember what happened 10-15 years ago which wasn't really important to anyone. I also do remember a lot from what we were supposed to learn at school. some people even told me that they don't even know what happened last year at school or at school trips. I don't get that as I do remember this. but this seems normal for me to remember.

      -----------
if capacity of memory has something to do with high IQ than it's my case. but anyway...how much can a human brain contain in its long-term memory?
      ----------

      edit:
Another and more important, because our dream content is stored in a short term memory area of the brain, the content of a dream is very quickly lost. Especially the smaller detail. If we write them down by doing so, by the physical conscious act, again bring this to the forefront of our thoughts. In return doing the same thing as the prementioned[/b]

if dream are stored in short term memory how come I do remember dreams I had when I was six even younger? I also remember dreams I had several years ago...or a month ago. I do have the memory. I just don't know when exactly it happened.is it because you "reply" the dream the day you wake up or not?

dreams which make me "stuck" (grrr explained today...at one thread...damn - my short memory is not good though - ...just a state where I have to realize again what the reality is) in reality are pretty much in my longterm memory. at least the parts which mean a lot to me (or frightened me to death...).

Well if you want a simple version on why one can remeber so well and other people can't its called being Human. If you want to know why one can remeber very well and others can't it's probably because they don't have a good mind. Really its like LD or art or acting or anytype of sports. Its basicaly a talent really, everyone has to have the ability to remeber but those who use it to the fullest potential are the ones who...well really use it. Like i said its like LD or art, in art people can be really bad at it and have to work there ways to the top or some are just born with, its also probably to do with the mind as people who are smarter can remeber more because they have spent time remebering it. Well you can say that but there many other types of people out there who can remeber different stuff, like i remeber all the useless facts about life and i can remeber what happened a few years back, plus i can remeber the first thing that i could remeber (if you catch my drift). Like i said its a talent and people who know they have use it but there are many people who have the talent but can't be bothered to use it.

I disagree unless your a savant their no differences abillty of one memory against another. See the greatest memory experts use mneomonics to increase abillty of memory. If you want to improve memory all you need to do is use the roman room or memory palace technique. memory is a set of processes to remeber you need to stick to the process.
