      Can hypnosis be used to obtain lucid dreams?

      I've often wondered the exact same thing!

      Anyone here a hypnotist? Anyone been hypnotized?

      I took self defense lessons from a karate instructor who is also a certified/licensed hypnotherapist and an accupuncturist. I may try and get back in touch with him again to see if he might consider hypnotizing me. I would think that you might be able to at least obtain some semblance of lucity while under hypnosis, though maybe it would be like a paralysis dream? Interesting...

      I read an article from a psychology journal about hypnotism and lucid dreaming. I don't remember their exact procedure, but they had to modify it once because the control group knew they were supposed to be testing lucidity and consequently increased their likelihood for becoming lucid.

      They found that hypnotism had a slightly better probablility of success when compared to just learning the techniques regularly.

      I tried to find the article again, but I couldn't. It was done for a PhD dissertation at some college.

      actually, hypnotism is one of the easiest and one of the pretty common ways to obtain lucidity, but usually you have to pay a hypnotist who knows what hes doing... and you dont get the fun of teaching yourself how to do it.

      i know how to self hypnotize yourself, i read a whole freakin book on it.

      1. well, first, get in a comfortable position where you wont be disturbed,

      2. then tell yourself that you are going to start relaxing. (you dont have to talk out loud to yourself, you can just think in your head.) tell yourself that your left foot is relaxing, then tell yourself that your left leg is relaxing, then your right foot, then your right leg, then your torso and so on, until you have done your whole body. it is helpful to do this over and over again if you dont feel relaxed enough.

      3. then tell yourself that you are going to get more relaxed and start to fall asleep, and you will be deeper and deeper as you count down from 20. it helps to picture yourself going down an escalator, or floating down on a cloud or something. tell yourself that you will be deeper and deeper asleep as you count down, and as you move further down on the escalator/cloud, etc. as you count, tell yourself that you are getting deeper to sleep every few numbers: "20, i am starting to fall asleep, 19, 18, 17, i am going deeper and deeper, 16, 15, 14, i am falling deeper to sleep, 13, 12... "and so on.

      you can do this over again as much as you want. for beginners you dont really feel any different, other than very relaxed (be careful not to actually fall asleep!) but when you are in this state, you can tell yourself stuff, and it is more effective. eg: "tonight i will have a lucid dream" stuff like that. after you are done say to yourself "i will now count up from five, and as i count i will become more and more awake, and more aware, and when i get to five i will feel refreshed and awake. "one, i am waking up, two, i am becoming more aware, three, i am becoming more and more awake..."

      yep, www.howstuffworks.com is a pretty valuable resource. They just so happen to also link to my site (I was really surprised when I learnt that)! (http://science.howstuffworks.com/sleep5.htm ... towards the bottom of the page, the link that says "lucid dreaming.") When they first wrote that article and it was on their main page, traffic at this site increased over 10 fold for about a week or so. I wish I would have had the forum up then, because then we'd probably have some more permanent members.

      Good website. I tried that hypitnotism thing Tim said. I did it once and felt strange, but the second time i tried it i felt scared. As if some 1 was trying to attack me as laid down. So it wasn't all that effective.
      Can some 1 whos not scared plz try this?
