Thread: Reading In A Dream

When I dream in where there is text or writing I can read it as if it is normal but the letters and shapes of the text will be all wrong. When I see things like this I tend to become lucid as I realize somethings don't make sense The problem is That I can no longer read when I gain control over the dream. I would like to be able to read in my dreams so that I may gain some context as to when where and what exactly is going on.

My general questions are:
How can one read in a dream?
Does anyone else have trouble reading in dreams?
Is there anything I can do before I sleep to help me be able to read in my dream after I become Lucid?

I've read in a dream before. I was reading the end of a book that I was anticipating, ie, A Series of Unfortunate Events 13: The End. And I recently had a dream about reading on this site, and it doesn't make me lucid.
But I would also like to know if it is possible once you are lucid.

Last week I read in my dreams like every night. Its pretty cool... All strange words you can imaginge go togeather in a strange mess but you can still read it, even though it doesnt make sense. I guess I read a lot in my dreams because i study speed reading and read a lot. Guess you would have more reading in dreams if you read a lot while awake!

Well, I've had few lucids and I never read in any of them, but I can read in normal dreams, and the letters look just right and what I read makes perfect sense. I also know that, technically, you can't read in dreams(because the part of the brain that deals with that is "sleeping"), but I have a friend who frequently has lucid dreams since she can remember and she told me that she often reads in dreams. So, it might depend on the person.

I've read short lines of text once or twice in LDs and normal dreams, the letters didn't change. I believe success in this area has to do with how vivid the dream is. So if you really want to read in an LD, I'd say work on making it more vivid.

I have read in dreams, but, not very often. That's weird, because I read a LOT in real life. The books that I;ve opebned seem to be in very large multicoloured print, and very weird. More pictographs than words.

I'm able to read in dreams, but not much. It feels alot harder when dreaming to read. I recall reading text on a bottle in a dream. I can't remember what it stood, just that I used it as a reality check, causing me to have an LD; the letters were different the second time I read it.

I've read in my dreams quite a bit and I've found that short phrases (or small paragraphs even) are readable and can sometimes be re-read and say the same things. But most often things that are re-read slowly become gibberish. I used to have dreams where I was reading novels and would just have endless streams on nonsense concerning the characters in whatever books I was reading. The sentences would be phonetically correct but the context would make absolutely no sense. I've found the only time that reading things while dreaming and making sense of it is when it's very short like on a billboard or street sign and I only look at it once. Otherwise dream-reading is quite confusing.

I find it funny that I haven't even needed to read one word in any of my dreams (that I can remember) - but I have always been curious..
