      Thumbs up

I'm not going to post "Was I lucid dreaming?", this should be obvious, you know if you did or not, or you should anyway. Rather my question is "How did I lucid dream?", read on and maybe someone could tell me what I did to induce it.

I was working in the 16th floor of a downtown office building. I work the overnight, and earlier that day, I only got 4 hours maybe 5 hours of sleep, not enough for me to function, so later when I got to work that night I had a chance to take a nap. At first I just fell asleep looking at my computer screen, laying back in my chair and propping a sweater under my head, I maybe got 15-20 mins of sleep before I woke up with my ass feeling sore from trying to sleep that way... so to get comfortable, I raised the keyboard section of my desk so I could better fall asleep leaning forward in my chair, pushing the keyboard aside and resting my head on my sweater... took no time at all i was back to sleep within 5 minutes of waking up...

heres the dream I had... (taken from my journal)

Just to set up this dream... I work downtown in a 20+ floors building which is located on the corner of Portage and Main, one of the biggest intersections in Winnipeg and certainly for the downtown area. Well, below my building and all the adjacent buildings on the other corners of this intersection there is a concourse, an underground mall if you will.

      .:First Lucid.. EVER:.
In this dream I'm walking in the underground concourse, most specifically the Scotiabank building because all the floors are white there compared to the rest. There is people everywhere going about their business like it was noon, this is when I think to myself, how can this be, i work the overnight shift, I shouldn't even be in this bank at this time regardless of all the people here. So i do a reality check, I try to poke my finger thru my palm, it went thru, and I also felt a bit of pain.. then and there I got excited, but remembered to stay calm, yet no matter how calm I tried to be, I felt the dream fading away, so I tried the spin technique that I read so much about on DV.. and was actually able to retain lucidity... so next I decide what am I going to try. I decided I wasn't going to try and change my surroundings, I wasn't going to try and fly, or make someone appear in fear that I would wake up, but rather I decided to try and do something that I'm very unlikely to do in waking life... I look around at all the people, to see if there is anyone I know, or if there is something I could do, which is when I spotted this very attractive girl and her cute friend and decided I was gonna try and pick her up. I walked over to her, can't remember what I told her, but next thing I know she won't go anywhere with me unless she gets something to eat, (weird, I thought), but I remember we are making our way to Subway, which is across the street from one of the four builing at the intersection... all the while on the way there I can remember some heavy petting and gropeing of sorts and her cute friend asking if I had a coworker or someone she could hook up with, I told her that my brother was up there while I was on break. Once in line to order some food, I remember a whole topic on this forum about how people look at their hands just to find them deformed, so I decided I to look at them, my left hand seemed completely normal but my right hand was normal except for my ring finger and pinky were twice as small as the rest, I also looked around at this point to see if there was someone I knew, but just a handfull of strangers... after we got the food, we went back down into the concourse to cross the intersection back to my building as it's the fastest way to get there. When we made it to the elevator that would take us up to the floor that I work on, we found ourselves waiting as many people, more than is allowed in the elevator, are trying to pack themselves in it like clowns in a clown car, I remember laughing out loud at the last guy getting in because he was trying to squeeze everyone in with his back, facing us, who were waiting for the next elevator... the doors closed, and I could feel the dream fading, I tried spinning, but only ended up waking up.
      --------------

I've read thru several of the tutorials, and can't seem to classify it as a WILD(I was only awake for 5 minutes), MILD(especially since I wasn't even thinking about lucid dream when I woke up to get comfortable), WBTB(same as Wild, had to stay up longer then 5 minutes)... maybe I'm trying to hard to figure out how I had the lucid, maybe the couple of weeks of writting the DJ and doing RCs was all I needed, if so, then I'll be happy, but maybe there is more I'm missing, anyway, as i'm a newb, maybe some of you experienced LDer's would be able to give me theories or share any ideas. Thanks.

You probably had a lucid dream by DILD( Dream induced lucid dream)

Which is: You were in a dream, thought something was wrong and did a RC. Then you realised you were in a dream and got lucidity.

So yeah, your Dream Journal and your reality checks practice induced your first Ld, a DILD.

      Congrats

When I had my first LD a couple of weeks ago, I was asking myself the same question. I remember that I woke up after 5-6 hours, wrote my dream down, and decided to WILD. I gave up after 2min, and just went to bed and had my first LD lol. I was awake less then 10min. In the dream I did a reality check, but I was already aware that I was in a dream, so I know it would work. I guess if you really try hard, do a lot of RC's, write down all your dreams, you will just experience a lucid dream, because your conscious mind is constantly preoccupied with it.
