If I wasn't aware about lucid dreaming then I suppose I would be slightly worried about some small hallucinations that I sometimes get. More recently I have tried to analyse what is happening and how I can get them again. Please read everything before replying, thanks.
I get these hallucinations in situations when I'm really tired but fighting my body to stay awake. This is MAINLY the case.
It seems as though I am not fully asleep, I am awake and aware - but some part of me is asleep; in a dream like state?

This makes my surroundings look very surreal - and it is as though I am seeing parts of my surroundings that I shouldn't.. but these things overlap or are on top of what is really there. Which is why I came to the conclusion that part of me is still awake.
For example, I was sitting on the train on a long journey.. I was tired, but fighting myself to stay awake in case my stop was next. I would blink, and I could see minor changes in my surroundings.. such as; a drawing/sketch of an old man was sitting directly in front of me (or a ghost), the colours on the chair morphed to make different faces - as long as I didn't squeeze my eyes shut again everywhere would continue to morph or what ever. So these last only a couple of seconds.. until I sort of 'twitch' and I know that I am back in reality 100%.
Now, at this point I figured out how to take control and explore a little to see different hallucinations that I wont go into. But I was confident and certain that I played a part in what was happening. I explored a little.
This has happened to me before, but this was the first time I could actually take control and see surreal things when I wanted to. In this particular situation you could say I mastered it. I haven't tried since because I don't know how exactly to go about it, then again - I haven't had the time to think about that yet.

I was not sleep deprived, just tired - so that isn't a good enough explanation.
I was not on drugs or drunk.
It seems as though it is connected with lucid dreaming (obviously).. but what is interesting to me is that it was though I seperated what is real with my warped imagination.. but the reality never changed. The added surreal imagery was just overlapping what was actually there..

I am quite excited but I expect to see some replies that will crush this.

      What do you think?

PS. Not sure if this is the right forum? So aplogies in advance.

I found out when I was in 2-3 grade that if I stare at something long enough I can make it seem to disappear from my sight. It seems my brain will just fill in everything behind it. It's easiest to do with lines on pavement but just about anything with a fairly even backround can be blurred out. I've never tried it while tired though. I don't see what your so worried about. Your hallucinations seem completely believable and not so out of the ordinary. You could probably do a lot more with it than you think, maybe even complete lucid dreams. Though I don't think you'd want to be sleeping too deeply on the train.

What are you experiencing is known as a "waking hallucination" and is really nothing to worry about. Many people encounter bizarre imagery even after exiting a period of REM sleep. The brain simply hasn't caught up with the notion that it is, in fact, awake.

It could also be that you have a very mild case of narcolepsy. You could actually be returning to a state of near-unconsciousness and be unaware that you are doing so. Have you ever been diagnosed with this disorder? Honestly, if it is only happening when you first awaken, I wouldn't give it a second thought. However, if it still worries you, don't hesitate to go and have a polysomnogram and a multiple sleep latency test performed.

I am not worried at all!
Just curious and wanted to learn a little bit more.
Thanks for the narcolepsy suggestion.. although I haven't researched in depth about it yet some of the symptoms seem to fit me - I haven't been diagnosed though I don't plan to. I'll look into it more when I can to be certain - I don't think a polysomnogram is neccessary!

The event that I first described was more interesting though because It seems I was in control, or atleast knew what to do to get the 'waking hallucinations'.. as It happened about 5 times atleast, over a short space of time, and each time it was varied.. The final time it happened before I stopped I seen my hands touching a wrench of some sort (when I looked below at my lap) but it didn't feel as though I was touching the object.. It was just visual. My hands where smaller aswell. It felt as though I was trapped, almost.
Another interesting thing is that I don't get them after a normal nights sleep when I awake in the morning? But like mad when I have these micronaps or whatever. I like it though, that's the main thing.

      Thanks again guys!

i can do this whenever i want, works best in the dark though. i just say something in my head, and think of it and it will appear soon enough. i can use it to even create scenes, or what ever i want. i can even animate the objects/scenes if i wish to. its not hard, just practice and it will be easy soon.

if i try, they will even turn 3D. some of the ones i created last time were cool, i could even describe what they were and the order i put them in if ya would like. i should try again, and see what else i could create. i also forgot to say, i did this with my eyes open. i could do it either eyes open or closed though doesn't matter.
