      Hey!

      This maybe a strange question

In a rescent dream I had, it struck me to try to talk to a aspect of my personality I ended up finding my paranoia. Strangley it turned out to be Russel Brand and not paranoid at all ha ha! after all I was just having a normal dream

But it got me thinking as dreaming is a subconsious process (atleast i think it is) and your personality is subconsious too, do you think it is a reasonable assumption to think that you could seriously find things out about your personality and meet different personality traits in the form of DC's or even in a way change things about yourself? for example making yourself more confident or something along those lines.

      What do you all think?

I think LDing has affect my personality by making me happier.

I am more talkative at school and am not as quiet.

Never thought of it till seeing this thread.

      Neat!

It's helped me to think through certain things a lot more clearly than possible in reality...I know there's all this bullshit about "opening your mind" but in reality, it's something that RARELY can be achieved...for me at least, in the dream state, it's something that i can actually achieve, and when I reflect on some of the knowledge later, it adds a really interesting perspective that I normally would have never even stopped to consider. Definately led me to question a lot of things about what exactly is the "definition of reality." but yeah, overall I would say it HAS affected my personality (in a good way ).

Definately changed my personality because lucid dreaming makes me see things in a different way than before. I think exploring different aspects of your personality through dreaming is a fantastic idea. I have done quite a bit of regression, exploring things that really bother me about my past and really exploring it to find out why. (damn i sound like my own psychologist )

That's the best part - explore the really messed up feelings you have, the things that really bother you and see if you can get a different understanding of it.

      good luck!

      Absolutely!

Dreaming is the subconscious at play. DCs are aspects of yourself.

It may require some skill and guidance to guide / interpret the development of a dreamer e.g. from an elder, shaman, higher self, psychoanalyst (this is what they do&#33, or friends in the DV community!!! But usually its pretty obvious what a dream's message is and what to do with it. Frequently I've started sharing a dream with a girlfriend (poor things&#33 first thing in the morning - then realised that what I had at first thought to be simply the bizarre random creativity of my mind was actually a very obvious lesson about some aspect of my personality - this has been mildly embarrassing when the aspect being revealed is (usually&#33 some sexually perverted desire...

One useful aspect of LDing is that in theory, you can specifically seek out answers to questions about your self. At the very least you won't run away when a dream monster (aspect of self) attacks. You can instead ask it why it's there and demand a present that will help you understand where that fear is comming from.

If you are into dreaming then your dream recall is probably improving, and you are more likely to reflect on your dreams rather than dismiss them as worthless nocturnal hallucinations - which IMO is good for the 'personality'!

      What's your evidence for this?

So then the answer to does it affect your personality is yes

But does anyone know if it could dredge up trauma's or things you have supressed from your past (just to be clear this has not happened to me its more a question) and therefore instead of helping your personality it could damage you?

Just want to know this before I run to all my friends and tell them how wonderful LDing is haha I would hate to be responsable for doing that to someone if you get me

Yup I believe that Lucid Dreaming effects your personality to a degree. It definately makes me look at the world in a different aspect that's for sure. Keep in mind that things influence you on a concious level as well thus affecting your personality. I think Lucid Dreaming give a stronger degree of personal influences wether than regular dreaming. Excellent observation by the way.

Where else could they come from?

BTW This is not in the 'Beyond Dreaming' section where I might have given a different explanation and answer!

So then the answer to does it affect your personality is yes [/b]
The answer is: like anything else, LDing can affect your personality - but yes in theory its good for positively affecting your personality (apart from all the sex and zombie slaying ). In my experience - I have come to a better understanding of various deep seated fears - I no longer have nightmares (just the occassional anxiety dream). I also frequently use it professionally as a creative.

But does anyone know if it could dredge up trauma's or things you have supressed from your past (just to be clear this has not happened to me its more a question) and therefore instead of helping your personality it could damage you? [/b]
Yes - you can dig up supressed (or just forgotten) memories. This is a classic therapuetic technique used in psychoanalysis, hypnotherapy etc. Its probably best not to supress traumas - they usually get out in the end - however (to cover my arse) I would strongly recommend that, if in doubt, you should get professional advice for this!

Just want to know this before I run to all my friends and tell them how wonderful LDing is haha I would hate to be responsable for doing that to someone if you get me[/b]
Not sure I get you - but I wouldn't run and tell all your friends. Wait until you have more experience, read le Berge, verify some of the claims for yourself - personally, read more DV (there's loads of posts here about what can happen when you run and tell your friends!!&#33
