hey all. im a naturalist/materialist, and im wondering if i have any business lucid dreaming. i don't believe in anything supernatural. in my belief system, anything percieved as "dream guides" or "shared lucid dreaming" are just illusions. do i have any place lucid dreaming? i have noticed most on this forum speak about all sorts of spiritual events and such.

Hey there, I feel the same way as you. I am not spiritual at all, but I am very into exploring human's natural limits. Our mind is very powerful and can allows us to express our feelings and thoughts through various mediums. Lucid Dreaming is just another medium like art or music. Thats the way I think about it, Lucid Dreaming is a biological/mental process that humans just do, explore it.

      Hi.

I might be wrong on this but I think this is probably one of the most sceptical LD forums you'll find on the web.

That's partly why I joined this one. It seems most people here are more interested in lucid dreaming than in the supernatural.
There is nothing supernatural about being conscious while you are dreaming.

Admittedly many individuals' spiritual beliefs have an impact on their dreaming but I'm sure that their beliefs have an impact on all the other things they do in their life as well.
Doesn't mean there's something inately spiritual about the act of lucid-dreaming.
In fact, it seems to me that if you browse the Philosophy and Religion/Spirituality forums you'll find a good few members who are athiests.
Once again, I may be wrong, but as far as I know LD is a scientifically validated process.

Many people do it just for entertainment, like an interactive movie or the best computer game ever.

I don't know how much lucid-dreaming you've done but I'm sure as you explore the practice you'll find it doesn't conflict in any way with a materialistic outlook.

All the best and hope you stick with it.

There are a lot of people here who don't think lucid dreaming has anything to do with the supernatural (me included.) Just for fun and profit. Well fun anyway.

Dream guides do exist. They're just your subconcious. A person that can answer any question, regarding yourself. Most of the time atleast

Anyways, I'm an atheist, but I still do lucid-dreaming, but only for fun and to explore myself.

Lost count of how many lucid dreams I've had

Not wanting to go off on a tangent but just had to say I agree with Marvo.

I don't believe dreamguides are sentient beings but rather a way of one's subconscious interacting with one's consciousness and thus, very useful "people" to get in touch with.

Of course. There's nothing magical about dreams.
