Yep I do, I believe that they are helpful hints to situations and problems that we endure in our chaotic lives on a daily. I think the subconscious and the conscious mind conflicts with the process of the information related to us because they don't speak the same language. It's just like Computer Programming, well at least that how Shadow see's it.

I had to vote no; I can see dreams as merely connected thoughts or images from the day's events (or past memories), and mutations of "free will" thoughts inside those dreams, which spawns new situations and events, and thus new connotated memories and thoughts. Or maybe that was a ramble and I misused "connotated".

However, I do in some form believe that dreams may hold a subconcious knowledge about the world we live in, and our interactions with it. Like there is some sort of knowledge that our subconcious acquires that we do not fully realize, and this can be shown to us in dreams, giving the appearance of .. stuff. I quit, I forgot the english words.

I think its part of both.... They're associations etc they form a dream, and when you remember it, and analize it correctly you can get to know things about whats been bothering you, etc. Not a direct message, but they do portray your inner feelings.

I'd have to vote yes precicely because of the fact that I have had dreams of rivers & streams and woke up thirsty... but I don't think the 'messages' can be amuch more detailed than that. As for those books saing that if you dream of a bald monkey you will get a promotion... that's just a load of gobbledegook

Most of the time I believe they are messages from the subconscious. However, I have never heard a definition of what the subconscious consists of that totally satisfies me.

Yes they are. They can serve as messages concerning insinctual, pleasure principles, or even up to morallity principles...your subconcious has something to say, that is why we have dreams.

      Yes! Most definately!

I've sweated over problems before for days and then had the answer come to me in dreams. Must have been my subconsious trying to help me out!

Of course, if you are having dreams where you are a manic on a killing spree, what is your subconsious trying to tell you?
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

well we know very little about how it all works, but i take to the idea that its a mix between our conscious free will and our subconcious mind taking control of our dreams

i think any meaning in dreams is made by your conscious mind, not subconscious. the subconscious presents it and you interpret it and gather whatever meaning you may from it.

      i think.

      I don't. But that's just me.

You may just get ideas in dreams because it is proven that you can think up your best ideas when relaxed. (For example, Isaac Newton was relaxing under a tree [or so they say], when an apple hit him on the head and bam, he figured out gravity.) They also did some brain pattern test thingies that I didn't understand. But they hooked a guy up to all the wires, and they figured that you get an "aha!" signal in your brain when you figure something out. So they asked him to find the dog in a picture, while he was hooked up to the stuff...he found it, and bam, the signal happened. The same signal happens when you think up ideas when relaxed. I've sidetracked now.

Dreams do have meanings, meanings that are hidden to our own ego for they go against what we have interiorized as a superego. In other words the true meaning behind them is not acceptable for you to know it, for it goes against your person.

In the end everything comes down to the desire of incest(at least according to Freud) and it evolves from that.

I have seen one of my teacher interpret some guys dream(up to a certain extent, for it would be kind of shamefull for him to have everyone here what is behind everything). Believe me, dreams have a meaning that can only be learning by free association, and only you can discover(if necesary with the aid of a psychologist).

P.S. There is al lot of things I could write but then again you would be better of reading Volume 15 of Freud's colective works, or taking a course in Psychoanalisis...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...
