How To Become More Aware In Sleep?

last night i was in a sailing race, my boat vanished so i swam back to the dock and i got a peice of scrap wood that wouldnt be able to carry me in a million years, i had an engine in my other hand and as i rode the wooden plank thats un-rideable i would use the engine to keep me afloat if i sank... how can i notice this in my sleep ? do i talk to myself before bed ? would reality checks help me here ? how did you guys become more aware ?

Reality checks always help. But I have trouble seeing that I'm lucid when big obviously strange stuff happens. I usally do a reality check when I notice something small is wrong, like noticing a certain star is in the wrong place in the sky, but ignoreing all the floating yellow bricks and the killer turtle. Also try and find things that are usally in you dreams, like dream signs, and do reality checks whenever yousee your dream sign in real life.
