I don't know if it is even possible to create, but I realized if someone were to create a machine that would allow people to Lucid Dream any time for as long as they wanted by manipulating brainwaves or whatever, the effects could be horrendous. I in no way say that normal, nighttime Lucid dreaming is dangerous, but if people could do this at any time, much of the world would probably use this to escape reality. They could do whatever they wanted for as long as they wanted. Facilities would probably be created where caretakers would keep everyones' vitals controlled, while they just LDed on and on. Society as we know it would collapse, and there would be a world ruled by people's desire to just have fun and do whatever. I do not want to be a doomsayer, but I believe that the effects of a Lucid Dream Machine would be the end of the world as we know it, especially in the Western world, where people are affluent, and could afford this. I am wondering what other people think of the idea of a Lucid Dream Machine, and what you think it would do.[/b]
That is my opinion on this. I think it has far too much potential for abuse, and really don't like the idea.

Yea, people would just disappear into the LD world and never come out. Think the matrix

I don't know if it is possible, but that I think wouldn't have the implications of the "anytime" machine, as people would be doing it in their sleep, and not just whenever the hell they want. I personally wouldn't use it consistently just because of the satisfaction I get when I induce an LD, though I would try it a few times. I don't see any such product though at this point in time getting mainstream though, just because of the fact that many people immediately tend to see LDing as cultish, or unnatural, and are scared of it because they are close-minded and haven't experienced it themselves.

I don't think there would be too much of a problem of "escaping reality." For one, many kids ALREADY play video games mindlessly and that is really the same. Also, I dunno about you, but I enjoy things that happen in real life.

I agree that video games can be escaping reality, but other than the super-hardcore gamer, most people don't play enough to truly escape reality. Also, though games are getting more immersive, an LD machine would be totally immersive + plus you make your game, so they would take the similar addiction to a whole nother level, and attract more crowds than games.
