      Talking

Hello DV! I haven't been here in a while, mainly because I was losing hope, especially in the dream recall department. I now know why I don't remember my dreams; basically, I sleep very unhealthily. I'm not gonna bother you all about sleep probs, though; I'm too excited about something else...

Basically, I got sleep paralysis! Now, I know this might not be exciting news for some, but it is for me! I never get or have gotten it before, so I want to capitalize on this moment while I'm "on a roll"!

Last night I actually fell asleep quickly and stayed asleep, as far as I can remember. I woke to the sound of my alarm at 8:00am, didn't remember any dreams, and went back to sleep. I awoke again at 1:00pm (yikes&#33 with a splitting headache. I took some ibuprofen, and remembembered that the program BrainWaveGenerator (one of those binueral beats programs) had a headache treatment. I popped in some earphones and listened. My headache went away within 10min.

Now, I don't know why, but at 4:00 I started getting REALLY tired again, even after such a long sleep. I lied down on the couch, with literally no expectation of actually falling asleep again. I just wanted to relax, so I did. After about 45 min of this, I felt what could be described as a sudden "rush"! I started to feel what people commonly call the "Vibrations", though they were really more like tingly sensations, but strong ones. At this point, I was guessing that I was getting sleep paralysis somehow.

Lo and behold, I couldn't move my body, though my mind was totally "awake"! I got a little afraid at first, but then I re-assured myself that this was a completely natural process. I calmed down, for about 20 seconds... I started getting anxious again, and had ridiculous thoughts like "What do I do now? I FORGET! What if I get stuck like this not knowing what to do!?!?!"

I admit it, I panicked. For about ten seconds, I struggled to force myself to move. I wasn't getting any luck; it was only after some time had passed that I just suddenly "woke" and was able to move again. I was surprised, and am really happy! I don't know what it was that caused me to finally have SP, but I feel like I've made some serious progress, and I wasn't even trying to WILD or anything.

BTW, if anybody else that doesn't have SP is reading this wishing they did, there is hope! I've never had SP before, so I'm pretty positive at this point that anything is possible. Though I don't know how I did it, lol.

Why would you want to have sleep paralysis? I only had it once after a nightmare and I was like "Oh it was just a dream...so now what do I do?" It wasn't that exciting.

That's really interesting! The only time I get full-blowm SP is when I nap in the afternoon on the couch. The tingles are so odd, aren't they?

Just a theoretical question, but is the SP that you slip into while attempting to WILD less prone to the more terrifying aspects of the state -- the "evil presences," crushing weight, etc.?

The first time I ever got sp I thought a demon was trying to possess me, the next few times I just thought I had some type of medical problem but now that I know what it is I love it! I get it occasionally (maybe once a month) but now always seize the opportunity to hallucinate and fall into a lucid dream.

Let's see... how to get SP? I don't have a sure-fire method; I see myself as a beginner as well! However, I have noticed one thing in common with all my SP experiences:

I have always been trying to focus on something while trying to just RELAX, and not necessarily sleep. I think that's a major key, the relaxing bit. That's why so many people have success when they nap on the couch (EagleEye's case). Try setting aside a few hours of time just for lying somewhere comfortable. That's it. Let it be a really peaceful experience, and tell yourself that SP IS relaxation. And relax!

As for making the jump from SP to LD... That's something I'm still working on. Me and probably 99% of DV! The SP is terrifying for some reason, but only while it's happening! It guess it just takes practice, just like everything else.

Sometimes what seems hardest to get in life is actually something you already have, but don't realize it. You definitely know how to relax, right?

Oh, BTW, I've been away from DV for too long, but I'm back for good this time.

I just had a really "intense" and successful SP! I had slept for 6 hours previously, and was resting before work. As I was lying, I was thinking about how good it felt to lie down and just relax, knowing the work that was coming.

I just fell into SP all of a sudden. It was very frightening at first; I heard very loud thumping, booming sounds in my ears, and definitely felt some heavy vibrations. The intensity waned a little after a little time; it didn't seem very long. I still felt vibrations and heard sounds, though.

After a while, I noticed I had "dream vision"! For me, this is a MAJOR success, as seeing in first-person has remained elusive to me in all but the most vivid dreams. I actually saw with my "eyes", even though they were closed. At this point, I knew that I was in SP, but wasn't sure if I was "dreaming".

My question was quickly answered when I noticed something strange. I was lying on the right side of the bed, while just seconds ago I was on the other side! I was lucid to a point, but I think I was still making the transition from awake to asleep totally. You see, I still felt like I was paralyzed, even though I was dreaming. I couldn't move enough to check my watch for an RC. I might describe this as more of a False Awakening.

Actually, a succession of FAs. After three or so, I "actually" woke up, and had complete control of my body. First thing I did was an RC checking my watch.

THIS IS VERY GOOD! Sorry, but I think it's important to post my successes here on DV. Every little bit helps; I'm getting better at this!

Nice progress!, everytime i try to WILD i get to the point where small sounds are amplified and disorted to the point where i force myself up because its so annoying. I still wish i will overcome that and WILD one day like you

eppy, that's really weird, I had the same thing happen to me! I would be sitting at my desk, with my arms crossed over the desk surface and my head resting on them. I would be struggling to stay awake (damn boring classes) and eventually I would enter SP; I think I even almost suffocated myself once, hehe. I didn't know it was SP at the time, though.

If only I could recreate those conditions! *goes back to school*

Ok, not trying to revive a dead topic, because in reality it's not dead (for me!!&#33

I got another SP this morning, so I've decided to turn this thread into a detailed log of every WILD or SP attempt, successful or not. Ideally, this would require an entry every day, and maybe it will, but I'm just not promising that. I'll try my best, though.

      ---------------------------
Well, I actually managed to make it to bed early last night (9:30pm !!&#33 AND fell asleep fairly quickly! I tried a thing called St. John's Wort for the first time; maybe it actually worked, or maybe it was the placebo effect. Either way, I don't care if it continues working.

I woke the next day at 7:00am, not recalling any dreams. (what a shock...) I remembered I was going to try WILD, so I got up to use the restroom, drank a LITTLE cola, and lied down again. I must have dozed off, because I woke up again at 11:00am. No dreams again... BLAST IT!

Well, I wasn't going to give up, so I went downstairs and tried the couch. It was strange, I felt REALLY comfortable and sleepy, even after all morning of sleeping. I started feeling all the signs of SP coming; a sensation of "falling" into my body and slight spinning. I don't know if it was HI, but I started visualizing being in KMart for some reason... Eventually, because I was so comfortable, my thoughts started just... flowing. I almost let go, but remembered to remain conscious. I ended up visualizing I was being pushed around in a shopping cart, like back when I was a little kid. I was going along with the flow, and I just "entered" SP.

I must be REM deprived, because I almost immediately after entered a dream! I knew it was a dream, because my "eyes" were actually open. It's the difference between the "mind's eye" and actually dreaming; I just knew. Furthermore, I was lucid!!! I was so happy, I decided to try and get out of the cart or whatever. Stupid me, I for some reason closed my eyes... Immediately I faded out of the dream and was back on the couch.

I tried to re-enter the dream, with no success... probably because I was so ecstatic that I actually WILDed, if only for a little bit. WOOOHOOO!!! This is awesome! Even though I have like zero dream recall, I'm optimistic again that I can do this. I really think the key was either sleeping early, St. John's Wort, or probably both. We'll see... I'm re-creating these conditions as soon as possible.

I'll only answer you if you tell me how to update my sig! I can't seem to figure out DV's new system, confound it!

Ok, I'll tell you anyhow: SP is full paralyzation; it's not a feeling a heaviness or even total relaxation. You literally will NOT be able to move.

For me, when I get "close" it's more of not feeling anything. When you get that heavy feeling in any part of your body, it means you're certainly relaxed enough body wise. What seems to be the problem for most people (including me) is having the mind enter the sleep state, as in stages I-IV and finally REM. I don't know the specifics on why some people have an easier time with this than others, but I can only say what has worked for me.

First, and I'm not being idealistic or exaggerating, is trying to WILD only when optimistic. I can't count the number of times I've attempted WILD with a "I'm gonna do it this time" attitude, trying to fight my body. It doesn't work. This is kinda hard to explain, but every time I've gotten SP, it's happened when I didn't have to "force" anything. I'll try and think about a better way to word this in the future...

Second: St. John's Wort, melatonin, or other things: I don't know if this ACTUALLY makes a difference, but I've taken SJW for two days now, and bam, a WILD. Maybe the placebo effect?

Third: Trying in the mornings only. WILD naps rarely have induced SP for me; only once, and it was short.

When you have SP you'll know it. It's not something that you'll have to wonder about.

Here are some of the symptoms

Ok, I tried to WILD again, today the 12th of April, but I did not LD or even reach SP. I guess I wasn't tired enough... oh well.

Good news, though! I ordered some of that Calea extract, and it just arrived!!! I'm going to try this next time I sleep, and I'll tell you all the results then. I'm hoping it will work well with WILD.
